Mics for an Epiphone SG G400

Hi, I bought an Epi SG G400, and I'm interested in change its PU.
I love classic rock and the Blues sound... sustain...
Bands / Guitarist: -specially- Slash, Angus Young, Rush, Aerosmith... etc.
I don't like at all the "hard" or "heavy" sound.

I did a search and I found the following sets:

SD 59 Neck & SD Custom 5 Bridge (it's the recommended set of SD in the Wizard)
SD 59 Neck & Bridge: more blues sound
SD 59 Neck & JB Bridge: (Too agressive for me?)

As I told you, my favourite guitarist is Slash, so I can't avoid the classic APH1 (Alnico II Pro)

APH1 (Alnico II Pro) Neck & Bridge
APH2 (Alnico II Pro Slash) Neck & Bridge (too agressive?)

I think that the two options I should choose are:
SD 59 Neck & Bridge
SD Alnico II Pro Neck & Bridge
or a combination of both: SD 59 Neck & SD Alnico II Pro Bridge

and what about?:
SD 59 Neck & SD Alnico II Pro Slash Bridge or
SD Alnico II Pro Neck & SD Alnico II Pro Slash Bridge

Well, what do you not like about the current pickups?

The 59s would likely do a good job in that guitar. I could see the Custom 5 working if you wanted a little more kick in the bridge. I don't like the JB at all in mahogany - I find it kind of honky in an unpleasant half-cocked wah kind of way.
A set of Pearly Gates might do the job too!

Thanks "oneblackened" for your answer, about the JB, I was told the same, that is to honky!
The Pearly Gates is a good option too... What do you think about the APH1 Set?
I bought the Epi with a SD Distortion in the Brigde (sounds horrible!!! Too "Middly") and a unknown PU in the Bridge...
I have the Alnico Classic that come originals with the Guitar, I will put them back while I figure out wich ones I'll put it.
I read that the Epi Alnico Classic PU are a regular (not good) pick-ups.

The quality of stock Epiphone pickups has varied over the decades. Most leave much to be desired.

The only SG variants that I really like are the Junior and Special. (P90 goodness, writ large!) For the G-400, I suggest SD P-Rails mounted via Triple Shot surrounds.

If your budget is tight, consider Tonerider pickups. Their Alnico 2 Classic humbucker should get you into the same general ballpark as the APH-1 and Slash models. My personal taste would be for the Alnico 4 Classic N and Rocksong B humbuckers.

'59's work well in SG's. A couple of the most popular bridge PU's recommended here for SG's are C5's (SH-14) and C8's.

For the PAF route, a '59N and an A2P bridge would be very nice.

Thanks! I didn't know the Tonerider, They are not traded here, in Argentina, but in this cases I consider the recoverable value...
P-Rails looks as an interested options, but seems complicated all the installetions.

Does the Triple Shot Rings works with P- Rails? You can get the three sounds of the PU?

I have a 2000 Gibson SG-X under my roof right now. The stock 500T ceramic humbucker is fine for some styles and a bit "samey" for others. I am very tempted to install a P-Rails.

Triple Shot mounting surrounds permit four possible sounds. On two- and three-pickup guitars, clever use of push-pull pots would allow additional options. (Phase reversal, series interconnection of both pickups.)

Hi, thanks all for the advises... I think I'll go with the SD 59's Set, Aesthetically I like the ones with the Nickel Cover, but I read that comparing to the open-coil it sounds a little less brighter, doesn´t it? It´s better for an SG a Set with Nickel Cover or Open-coil?

I like the 59/Custom Hybrid, but it's pretty bright sounding. I'd go with the Whole Lotta set if I wanted a warmer sound.

I wouldn't worry too much about covers vs. open coil as far as tone goes. Just like whichever you think looks better.

About the WL set, I find more vintage / classic sound in the 59s. Am I mad?
