Re: Mids

little less than half. but my amp is pretty middy, plus a lot of my pickups are very middy (DD, invader)

Re: Mids

Eh.... slightly off-topic.

One of the links posted in the Dimebag tribute room takes you to an article in which the reporter says something like "Dimebag Darrel was a heavy metal hero whose trademark mid-scooped guitar sound inspired legions of guitarists."

Now, it's possible I am smokin' crack, but I think I remember reading an article in one of the guitarist propoganda rags where Dime was talking about how he got his tone on Cowboys From Hell. In it, he ranted endlessly about how he cranked his solid state amp, and the mids...

Somebody enlighten me please...

For the record, mids are at 1 o'clock for this guy.

Re: Mids

normally i have it a little more than half

but when im in a pantera, metallica, straight up metal mood, i'll scoop them.

my actual settings on my marshall are

gain-5
bass-4
mids-6
treble-5
presence-8

and, like i said, when im in the mood for playing metallica, pantera, etc.. i'll scoop them. but i never scoop live, never ever!!

Re: Mids

for cleans, i have my mids alllll the way down. weird part is that i still cut through the mix just fine, and my clean sound still sounds very balanced. the cleans on my amp just sound too honky with the mids up.

but on the my OD channel, i have my mids at about 6 or 7. anything below 5 on a recto sounds way too scooped, and you won't cut through at all.

I'm not quite sure, but on the MXR Dime Distortion, he does have a "proprietary scop switch" which scoops the mids.

Re: Mids

Reporters and reviewers often have to find something to say to cover that they don't have a musical background to draw from.... I guess he saw "mid scooped" enough times to use it as a buzzword for the sake of sounding better.

I put my mids up to 10. Then I put my treble up high enough that it doesn't sound muted. I don't have much use for bass end...

Re: Mids

Last nite when jamming with my bassist i set the EQ Treble8/9ish, Mids 4/5 and bass 6. I dont know how well that would cut through with a band but it sounded brutal which was what i was after at the time. Usually my EQ is mids and treble 8ish (one may go up or down depending on amp) and bass on 5 or so. That has been my setting for live mostly.

Re: Mids

I have the mids at 3 on my Marshall MKII 100 watt head.
I also have a lot of presence(8) and treble(9).
And I like to keep my MXR ten band pretty much in the middle with all the freqs.
