Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

Why have I never heard of this mechanism before in all of my guitar playing years? I feel like all guitars should have 'benders' put in them!

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

I've heard of the B-Bender, but never the G-Bender. Cool idea. It doesn't hurt that Brad Paisley is an incredible guitar player.

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

Joe Perry has a B and a G on one of his Teles IIRC. Jimmy Page has one of these too I believe. Great stuff.

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

With a thick enough G and jumbo frets, you can almost get by without one! :D

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

I have heard of these I think Will Ray uses both a G and a B bender.

He says "it's something you can kinda use when you get stuck"... to me, the that's the problem; not so much the tool as what the tool is used for, which itself incredibly limited compared to a whammy bar, or even that switch that instantly puts a guitar into drop D. He's describing a crutch, basically, and so it is that I've come to associate b-benders with being the mother of all country music guitar solo cliches.

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

Holy cripes the arrogance... yeah dude Brad Paisley needs a crutch... whatever...

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

I said he *described* a crutch. I did not say "Brad Paisley needs a crutch".

I don't really see it as a crutch. I think it's a unique tool which can give a creative guitar player additional ways to express himself. I also don't think it's fair to associate it with a whammy bar or the drop D switch, it's a totally different animal. It's meant to imitate a pedal steel, and I personally think it does a good job of that, and adds quite a lot when used skillfully.

I agree. I want to hear more "adds quite a lot when used skillfully" and less "it's something you can kinda use when you get stuck".

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

I was on a bender once. Ok, maybe twice. :beerchug:

P.S. Brad Paisley is a killer guitarist.

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

That's cool. I'd like to try one of those myself. I'm not a country player but having been around some great country players, their tools and tricks are pretty cool. And Brad is a badass player.

Re: Mind-blown: Country Guitar Content

Clarence White was the first to play a B-Bender. Check out Sweetheart of the Rodeo from the Byrds. You may also wanna check out some Albert Lee vids. Make sure you're sitting down.
