Re: Mini rectifier vs Express vs Mark V 25

Hi just had some money issues last month and I'll be getting new amp now. Can rectifiers do rock/blues good? I can get mini rec 500$ cheaper than mark v 25.

Yes. They can do anything.

People get thrown off by the diamond plate. They are far more versatile than advertised.

I really like mini rec and also like it's look. Is it loud enough (clean) over a loud drummer with 1x12 or 2x12? 1x12 would be great since they are light, but 2x12 is ok too, just don't want to carry around 4x12.

I probably won't pay over 100$ for rectoverb since it's heavier and mini looks better, not a fan of lots of reverb either and there's always some reverb pedal for my needs.

I really don't know the answer to that question. When I was playing with the rock band I had in the mid-90's I was using a 200-watt Boogie Mark III head and a 412, but I needed an amp that could do PRISTINE Strat clean rhythm parts, yet sing on my solos.

One club gig I did with that band, I used my Mesa DC-3 112 combo, while the other guitarist was using an original 5150 half-stack. Even un-miced, I had no problems keep up with him and a fairly loud drummer. Didn't hurt at all when the sound guy came up and told me that the DC-3 was one of the best sounding amps he'd ever heard.

These days, I would think that the mini Recto on one of Mesa's 212 Horizontal or Vertical Recto cabs could go plenty loud in most small clubs. In a bigger club, you would have the option of micing the amp through the PA. And the little 112 Mini-recto cabs are pretty cool; I'd love to have a set of those myself. And the Mesa 112 Theile cab is legendary. I use one with my DC-3 and Mark Series combos.

I own a Series I rectoverb (single recto with reverb) and I really really like it. Great tones, very good cleans and recto distortion. You'll read a lot of reviews out there that say they're not as good as a dual recto. While they do have less options, they are quite good IMHO. And yes, I bought a head for dirt cheap compared to a new mini.

I think I'll just get used Single rec and used 2x12 mesa cab for less money than mini rec. Thanks to everyone!
