Mini strat necks. JB Jr, lil 59, HR, CR, etc.

I'm looking to setup my G&L Legacy Deluxe HSS non-pickguard strat.
I've got a trem C-5 in the bridge, but the G&L singles suck, surprisingly.
I want to have a great humbuckerish lead neck tone. Which ones have you tried and which have the most pleasing neck solo tone?
I'm only familiar with the Hot Rails, but am mostly considering the JB Jr or lil 59. I've also heard that Duncan just released a mini Pearly Gates. :cool3:

Which one would you choose?

Ive got a JBJr in the neck of my jackson and i love the thick lead tones it gives, not to mention the full warm cleans which i can even get away with for jazzy stuff if i want.

Id definitely recommend this as a fantastic singing thick neck lead tone.

Maybe get one of each. I'd then put the JBjr at the neck, and the lil 59 in mid. Fat with the cut. Maybe a coil splitting for each, when you need to pull back from the beastieness... Three push pulls, would make each bucker splittable, for super-combination choice. Ohhh, but the wiring and soldering.... Nice looking guitar.

I gotta research Duncan's new lil Pearly Gates I heard came out at NAMM. They just updated the design of all the rails type pickups too.
Thanks for the tips. I gotta listen to the clips of the JB Jr and Lil 59, too.

As for the G&L....it's a dark vintage cherryburst done in a tobacco type of way.
I'm not kidding, I haven't been this excited about a guitar in a long time. It's got a big chunky birdseye neck, and the tone and playability is something that surpasses most $2500 boutique superstrats.

I'm a big fan of the JB Jr and the Hot Rails, but I would imagine that comes as a suprise to no one!

Re: Mini strat necks. JB Jr, lil 59, HR, CR, etc.

i have a lil 59 in the neck of my strat, very warm sounding pickup really juicy ballsy sound for such a little pickup, maybe a little too much bass for some but certainly not muddy sounding. its not the highest output pickup ive heard but i prefere its lead sound to the full size dimarzio evolution in my jem neck position(the 59 has less output but a nicer warmer sound).

Re: Mini strat necks. JB Jr, lil 59, HR, CR, etc.

the cool rails neck pickup has AMAZING tone, it's one of my favorite SD neck pickups. Next to the jazz and '59

I may yank out the C-5 and put a Tremspaced JB in there, along with a JB Jr. neck and lil 59 like TT suggested. I'm deciding whether to make the middle a lil 59 or another JB Jr. though.

Re: Mini strat necks. JB Jr, lil 59, HR, CR, etc.

Hails Gearjoneser.. i recomend a JBJR OR LIL SCREAMING DAEMON for the NECK, and a Custom Flat in the middle.

Re: Mini strat necks. JB Jr, lil 59, HR, CR, etc.

Another question.....Can a regular 5 way switch turn these mini's into singles when they're only in the 2 and 4 positions, or do they have to be switched into single mode by a separate mini-switch?
