Minor tragedy somewhat averted

I'm not too sure who did it, but someone in my house knocked over my mic stand (twice apparently) and put an obsolutley hideous gouge in my Heritage H-150 :angryfire

So I guess my options were either a complete refinish, because the stock Heritage guard wouldn't cover both of them up. However in the past I always wanted to put a Les Paul guard on it, and I found by comparing with my Les Paul it just barely covers both gouges.

So I popped down to the local guitar store and he just gave me a LP style guard, which fortunately fit perfectly. So I drilled the new holes and mounted the new guard and good as new.

I love how it looks now fortunatley (I always hated their stock guard), although i'm a little peeved about the damage... but lesson learned. I guess i'll be folding my mic stands after practice from now.

Think I'll put a poker chip on it now to complete the Gibsonization.

That's no bueno but a ding is a ding. Accidents happen.

Rather than fold the stands, or in addition to, may I suggest putting the guitar away in its case. ;)

It reminds me of the time I burned a hole in my truck's headliner, and hid it by moving a safety decal 3 inches to the right.

Keep your guitars in cases in places where people can be stomping around clumsily.

I've always felt guitars in cases don't get played. I'll just be more careful not to leave them out around projectiles!

Re: Minor tragedy somewhat averted

Well, there's some logic to it. Playing a guitar locked in its case is somewhat difficult.

Captain obvious says unplayed guitars don't get dinged. Owning a very mint and very expensive guitar sucks in that a small accident ending in a ding can appear a disaster almost comparable to a meteorite turning your house into an enormous crater.

If the finish is nitrocellulose, it can be spot-repaired seamlessly. Stripping the whole guitar just because of a ding or two is something I call ridiculous. It's just not worth the time nor the money. It's still a pretty guitar. Because beauty lies more than skin deep.

The safest place for a guitar is in its case! Leaving a guitar on a stand is waiting for an accident to happen...

Well minor dings don't bother me a whole lot, especially if they happen during shows or just general use. But when it's stupid like this it's frustrating.

I know what you guys are getting at though.
