Modifications on my Custom Shop '56 NOS: Selling

Hello all,

Basically, I am looking to sell my 2007 Time Machine Custom Shop '56 NOS Strat (one-off GC-1) in order to finance a strat build of my own. The guitar is just like a '56 NOS but differs in that it has a 9.5 radius, 6105 Frets, Flame Maple Neck, and a Teal Green Metallic paint job.

I did a few modifications to it over the years, including changing the pickups to Duncan Antiquity Surfers, adding a blend pot and 5 way switch, aged some of the plastic parts myself to make them match the pickup covers of the Surfers, and changed out the tremolo block to a Callaham block.

Right now, I am putting together all the parts I need to make her "stock" again. Unfortunately, none of the original plastic parts match anymore because some were off of the guitar in the closet while some were on the guitar outside in the sun on gigs. I bought some new white plastic Fender parts to put back on the guitar to make it all match again. I will probably have to change the pickguard as well when I put the stock pickups back in to get all the plastic to match. I guess the question here is: what is preferable? Having the original parts that don't look right or having new parts that do look right? I was thinking of putting new white parts on the guitar, and including the original ones that have been aged (naturally or by me).

Also, the tremolo block is a Callaham block - the stock one broke. Do you guys think I need to purchase a new Fender vintage-style trem block to put the guitar back to original specs, or should I just sell it with the Callaham block?

Basically, what aforementioned options are preferable to a seller, and what would give me the most resale value? Would it be worth it to buy stock parts again? And how should I describe these aspects when selling the guitar?

Thanks for your feedback!

Best

I'd leave the Callaham block in there, since you don't want to buy another original.

Put everything else back to white original plastic, and try and find the pickguard new/used to save money.

Never include extra parts. Those are worth money, so you can sell those separately. It would be easy to trade a reliced pickguard for a clean white one.

Advertise it as what it is, and mention the upgraded Callaham block.

Who's making your new guitar?

Okay thanks for the reply, Georjoneser! Sounds good. Some sources tell me that a '56 NOS strat came with a parchment guard, but I think it was all white parts (the original pickup covers don't quite match the pickguard, which tells me that the parts were originally white and the pickguard aged naturally). Still not sure about this...

Also, I think, because my 1950 Broadcaster build went so well, I will do a Musikraft and MJT-finished strat. Perhaps a 2-tone burst strat based off of a 54-55 strat. Not exactly sure. I have lots of gear-related plans for the near future hehe
