more Marshall 800 tech issues

as i can afford it i've been fixing up a beat to snot early 80's JCM 800 2204.. The Canadian issue one.... just got it back from a tech today as i had him remove the high gain mod... but i've noticed a new issue i never noticed before.... I didn't request any other work done besides the high gain removal so it's not the techs fault i guess... unless it was an issue from removing the mod.

Anyways when i plug into the High Imput i get a fair bit more noise and distortion on low notes-(more then should be normal i figure, the low end distortion on notes made me think maybe something is wrong with the speaker)

when i plug into the Low imput i get almost 0 noise and no low end note distortions...

When i unplug the instrument cable from the front of the amp all together i get some noise like having a guitar cable in the amp but not in the guitar... like an open ground somewhere in the imput...

so i assume there must be an issue somewhere with the high imput jack? would this be wrong?

this 800 has sure been a lemon.... i knew that going into it that it was a real fixer upper... but still it has never worked right since i bought it....

Next time, play the amp in the shop, and after all customer is always right. Really sorry to hear that bro, I just went through a minor issue and almost lost my mind, cant even imagine how this feels.

i'm starting to think there is an open ground somewhere in this amp...

Re: more Marshall 800 tech issues

My Homebrew 2204 does the same. My Hi jack is wired right to V-I w/t shielded cable, While my low jack is wired to the board. The low input is silent as the grave while the Hi has the same open ground like hum? I've tried to move some wires and different grounding schemes... Still does it? I've always wondered if the genuine production Marshall JMP/JCM do this? Hopefully someone with a unmolested amp from this era will chime it?
