"most guys are using digital delays"

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

But, to be fair, I have played lots of delays, and my favorite one so far is the [cold, lifeless, modern, gimmicky, non-traditional, computerized] Line 6 Echo Park. Whaddyagonnado - it sounds the best.
Never owned an analog delay. Got my first digital unit in 1985 (still have it) and never felt like I was missing out by not owning analog stuff.

As for the thread title, I think it's accurate. Most guys are using digital delays. Doesn't necessarily make it better but it does explain why a big box retailer wouldn't carry a lot of analog units. If you want something that's outside of what the big box stores think players want, you'll need to shop someplace else. The alternative is to go Tom Morello and decide you'll just go with what you've got.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

It's better to use digital delaying if you have an issue with quick 'log times...according to "what she said."

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

Yeah, I was expecting this demise (LOL) and went with Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai as well. Great delay.

Yeah, it sounds great. The modulated delay, tap tempo, and 30-seconds of loop time pretty much sealed the deal entirely.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

I'm working on an analogue circuit to emulate digital emulation of tape echo, I'll let you guys know when it's done. I'll probably have to have them made in China to keep up with demand, but it's okay, I'm routing the PCB to emulate a hand wired digital circuit.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

You Cork Sniffing Tone Snobs couldn't tell Analogue emulated digital tone fron a 100% analogue pedal in a double blind test to save your friggin livez!!

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

He probably thinks the 'Holy Grail' is an '09 Studio.

I love all delays.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

I think Aceman's original post wasn't really about the merits of analogue vs. tape-based. That's kind of a flavor choice. Me? I'll take two of each, please.

Seems more the point is that he came in and specifically asked for an analogue display, and the salesperson shunted him off toward the digital stuff and used the reasoning, "Well, you'll be better of with this, because this is what most guys use."

It's bad customer service -- and bad salemanship -- to dismiss a customer's clearly stated preferences out of hand (and/or out of your own ignorance).

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

It wasn't my intent to knock the DD-3. It was just the most recognizable digital delay I could think of. It definitely sounds better than many that are far more expensive.

No problem and I was not taking offense I was just stating that I like the DD3. I actually have a Deja vue and haven't even plugged it in yet.

In my bedroom with me blinfolded and playing my guitar through my amp I would be willing to bet heavily that you are mistaken.

However, with me in the crowd and someone else on stage blasting away at volume I probably can't tell the difference and don't care. In fact, I bought a digital delay because of the clarity that I've heard guys with DL4s get that I couldn't get with analog delays.

So I like (and use) them both, but up close and personal I'll bet I can hear the difference.

By the way, I'm not sniffing any corks unless I know where they've been.

I was always waiting to catch a DD-3 on sale, and now that the prices are down I'm already loaded up with 4 delays.

But can you tell analogue emulated digital from real digital with one arm tied behind your back?

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

I could tell the difference, but frankly I could care less, I don't play slow enough for anyone else to know or care either. ---> insert cheesy smile here<----

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

Aceman's post is why I don't shop face-to-face. I simply cannot bear to gaze upon the limitless void of human ignorance, much less ask it a simple question.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

It is epidemic.

I went to a Harley Davidson shop where I expected to be met with at least a reasonable level of product knowledge in a salesperson. The guy who was "helping" me shared all sorts of imformation even the most casual brochure reader would immediately recognize as false.

It truly boggles the mind.

Maybe so but I think your expectation of meaningful customer service at a big box store is unrealistic.

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

What's a delay? Does it slow the notes down or something, in case you're playing is so fast that your amp can't keep up?

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

Hey - I don't care if MOST guys are sticking their thumbs up their butts and playing Poker Face on a Kazoo.

I asked for he cheapest delay. Simple question. I expect the guy to know every pedal in every line. I do...almost. And I don't work there all day!

What was really funny was when I dropped the name of my bud the Sales manager...
