Yeah.. I remember that ad! ~13 years ago, I had it right next to my bed, along with over 40 maiden posters all around on my wall. It was during their NPFTD and FOTD era.

I tried one of these amps some years ago, Crate Tube Driver 50 (w/stereo chorus if I remember right). Not bad sounding!

*Sigh* What I was referring to is NOT a signature deal (which in itself is an endorsement of sorts) which is an endorsement to sell the artists image, not for the artist to promote the companies product.

a signature deal is a signature deal.. if it's followed by an endorsement of the gear, one is not allowed to play other stuff unless the contract says othervise (since most people get a sig deal cos they're famous and get free guitars by wearing the companies name so it gets promoted, they rarely play something else till their contract expires/they break away.. see -> mustaine went from jackson to ESP)

Nothing there mentions getting a special instrument with your name on it (signature deal). It has to deal with the promotion of the product ... nothing here has to do with signitures so I don't know where you're coming from that aspect

the company rarely says look, this and this is using our this and that without a signature deal of somesort. they get a custom product out with the name of the (ab)user on it. depending on the contract, the artist can use the thing (like dimebag darrel) and promote both the product and the company, or like in therms of the maiden fender axe or this crate here, they chose to just leave the contract be (in the fender part i doubt they give a **** as they use fenders pretty much exclusivelly these years, big advertisement)

if they get an exclusive endorsement deal, they pretty much cant use anything outside of the companies lineup live. (usually happens when one has a signature endorsement deal - get stuff for free too)
then there's the middle ground where they can use other stuff, but have to use the companies products more often (or at least for promo purposes like photoshootings) the most widespread (get things cheaper than the normal rate). like TO's endorsement with wayne guitars

Don't forget that Yngwie is/was endorsed by Rhino Amps (quite possibly the biggest joke out of all amp manufacturers), and even put out a ****ty signature head.

wrong. endorsement means you're legaly bound to the company that 'bought' your name and image so you are seen playing their guitars/amps. depending on the contract, they may give you some leeway so you are not bount only to their brand. but one or two other products.

what you are talking about is a signature line of an amp/guitar, effect etc. it's not neccessary that the person is using it exlusively, but has at least one in his arsenal.

also, endorserers dont always get free stuff. most of the time they get a percentage off a custom built guitar (unless you're one of these people: Vai, Satch, malmsteen, van halen...), endorsing also means you are seen with the stuff more than on one occasion so he'd have to use them on tour.. which i doubt he did. the companies dont give a damn if it's been used in the studio or not. they can be mentioned in the booklet, but maiden are all across the board. in the studios, they even used peavy's around the killers era

Sorry, I don't agree. I do agree with the way Prophet explains it. Not sure how things are where you are, but I am pretty sure that is not the deal here in the states. To the point at hand, obviously Dave is doing an "endorsment" that deals with advertising. i would bet he got paid to "endorse" crate amps. As far as I know he has never seriously used Crate. Correct me if I am wrong. I have seen them use Gallean Krugier, marshall, never Crate. I am sure there are different levels of endorsment. Funny enough, a band I was in was "endorsed" by miller beer. When we played places we had to use signs with our band name bordered by miller lite on either side. We were supposed to say things about drinking miller lite, and such and such. Basically it boiled down to them paying us for advertising there product. We didn't have to drink miller beer, just advertise it.

Signature deals are a joint endever if you will. Take a look at all of the guitars slash and gibson put out. Of course he plays LP's. But I think either the company pays the artist, or the artist gets a minute fraction of sales. I think that would depend on the popularity of the product and the artist. Again I think there are varying degrees of artist "signature" instruments. Look at the Hendrix signature strat. I think Jimi's sister and the Experience Hendrix foundation got the coin. None of them play signature hendrix strats.

well.. you technically cant endorse beer.. you can get sponsored by the company for exchange of advertisement.. boils down to the same thing to be exact, but it's a diferent deal initially

on a sidenote.. dave could've just been wasted and needed a place to lean on to (he's got the same moonshine smile face on anyway), and this thing was the only thing in the vicinity. some photographer took a pic and the crate folks used it. dave said yes cos he thought it must be one of those alcohol fueled memory losses and since he was with it on a picture he thought he agreed on it.

i do believe we're in a loophole since we all look at the endorsement diferently. since (at least here) it's that if you're endorsing a company you have to use it.

This makes alot of sense! No wonder we look at things so differently.

Over here if you endorse it, you don't have to use it.

Few thing here guys,

First I don't know crap about endorsments, except that I heard like in Yngwie case that his deal with crate, was basically that he used a small one backstage for warming up.

I guess an endorsment doesn't always mean an artist has to use the gear on stage.

Now a few things I do know for sure.

Adrian used a goldtop les paul as far back as the killers tour. I have seen footage and videos and know this for sure. Someone mentioned that they thought it was only back to the Piece Of Mind era, in which I also saw him play what I THOUGHT was a Gibson Melody Maker.

You can clearly see in the video to the Trooper that Dave hada khaler trem on his black and white strat.

Now one more thing, I'm NOT totally sure about is that if they had a deal with SD and you aren't allowed to use any other pickup, well I can almost swear that I have seen Double Cream colored pups in Davesl guitars, and correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Dimarzio have a patent on that or something, so that SD couldn't do it?

the 57 strat of daves has a dimarzio SD and a paf in the neck. still has it,, only diference now is that it's sitting in a glass display case at his home in hawaii.

the same issue with adrians goldie.. less the display case. he def used it on the killers tour too. on the POM and powerslave tours and then switched to lado for a couple of years, then to jackson for somewhere in time, some les pauls thrown in and then he quit and got his own band.

the trooper eh? have to fire it up again.. havent watched it in years

The Destroyer's Adrian played were actually Destroyer II's...(Destroyer's were exact Explorer copies and considered a "lawsuit" Ibanez......not wanting to stir up that can of worms...)

SD did make double cream PU's as I actually have a SH-6 double cream (older... in my '82 set-neck Destroyer II)

yea, those were the II series destroyers.. looks a little bit on the radical side, but it's cool as hell. only ibanez i'd own ... is your D II the 2 pup model? if so.. when do you work, where do you live do you have any pet dragons or other vicious animals? try to describe your security system as accuratelly as possible please. security code also if possible :newangel:

well, dimarzio didnt have the patent from the start, they got it sometime in the 80's i believe (correct me if i'm wrong).. there's still a way around that though hehe

Ibanez Destroyer II.... aah!

It has 2 Dimarzio (PAF and SDist) and a Gibson Patent # on the middle.
