So my brother has a Marshall MX412A laying around that he never used, so he figured he'd let me mod it. I was a bit nervous until I realized that a cabinet is no more complicated than 4 speaker cones and some wire. The current speakers are based off of Vintage 30s, but I think they are a bit darker and more bass heavy.
What speakers could I replace them with that would get it closer to a 1960A? I'm not trying to replicate a 1960A, that's just a starting point. I'd rather keep it cheap too if possible, the frame is cracked on the bottom so it won't be going to any gigs.
Also, two more things, I'd like to experiment with mixing speakers. The last bit is more of a safety concern, but do you have to drain cabs like you do with amps?
