MXR Blue Box Owners

Does this pedal suck tone when bypassed? Does it cut off your high end or bass? I have a Phase 90 and notices very very little tone suckage. How is it with the Blue Box?

By the way, has anyone tried the Blue Box with Mohomods?

Thanks

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

I know that when Christian gets home he will be able to respond. The 1st and only time I have ever played through one of these is when Christian brought his over and said " Hey you know that tone Pagey gets on the Fool in the Rain solo...well he was using this pedal!"

I thought it was cool, but didn't pay any attention to the tonal variations bypassed.

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

Hey fellas, thanks for the replies. MXR pedals are not true bypass. I want to get this blue box.

I hope Christian sees this post then. :)

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

The blue box is pretty bizzare, i didnt notice any sound difference when schecter player turned his off but most of the time we kept it turned on. its that cool.

smilemon
P.S, just mod it for true bypass if you notice any tone sucking.

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

The Blue Box uses the same switch and on/off set up that the Phase 90 uses...it's not true bypass but there is very little loss of singlan and high end...I say if you want that thing then go for it but be warned...the Blue Box is NOT for the faint of heart! I have had a Blue Box off and on for about 50 or 60 years now and have yet to get a trule useable sound out of it short of making guys ask, "What the hell was that?!":laugh2:

Anyway, on the tone suckage you should be fine...go for it!

50 or 60 years? Man, you're old there, Christian...LOL.

The MXR Phase 90 isn't true bypass but the EVH Model and Wylde OD are what they call hard-wire bypass. Practically the same thing as true bypass.

I got past the tone suckage of my Phase 90 but putting a buffer between the circuit out and the output jack.

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

the only real way to describe it is the bastard child of a really wierd fuzz and an octave down pedal except with no gain or tone knobs. REALLY WIERD, REALLY FUN. it is true that its pretty hard getting usable tones out of it but its really fun and simple to use.

Re: MXR Blue Box Owners

What exactly is the Blue Box SUPPOSED to be?

This unassuming little box shovels out enough low frequencies to scare a blue whale.
The MXR Blue Box takes your guitar signal, fuzzes it up, then duplicates it two octaves down. You control the output and the mix between the dry signal and the effect. Using it 100% wet is quite an experience, but more recognizable sounds appear as you dial in more dry signal. The Blue Box is known for having a chaotic personality that can make each session a totally unique experience!

on mine (the reissue version from dunlop), i noticed that if you listen closely, you can hear the box a bit when "off". but its not that noticeable, and im sure it wouldnt be too hard to put in a true bypass.

Okay. Thanks for the explanation.
