A Poll for all you Gibbo SG Fans, and everyone else too :

I have only one guitar now, after my Gibson MM (2x pu model) & Danelectro '59 got stolen earlier this year.

I have a Gibson SG Faded w. SD A2P's (humbuckers covered)

I am now looking into a S/C guitar to cover the other side of the spectrum.
I wanted to get a Jaguar or Jazzmaster for that, but i think i want to stay with the SG-shape for now !

If money is not such a big problem, wich SG would YOU suggest i get to cover the opposite side of the Humbucker Spectrum ?

A) SG Classic w. P90's

B) SG III w. 3x S/C's

I have never liked SG's but if I were to get one, it would be this one....

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

I hear there's not a big tonal difference in a 3 pickup Les Paul or SG stock- but someone on here put a Phat Cat between 2 '59's.

I have my eye on the SG Classic myself- that'll give you a tonal difference from the SG faded with humbuckers

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

I voted the SG Classic...the only way to go if you want singles is the P-90 version. Not a fan of the SGIII!

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

Sorry to hijack your thread... are those P90 loaded SGs and LPs customshop things or in the standard lineup? Because I seem to be unable to find em on either page and I once heard that guy get killer sound of a P90 loaded LP, so I was wondering about that.

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

yeah caruana has a point...you could just coil tap or even do the jimmy page mod to the SG you have...it won't sound like a real Fender single coil tone but neither will a P90 SG or the SG-3 with rail single coils.

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

Another SG; A man of good taste.

The Classic with P-90's would be awful nice. Why not do it? If you need to tweak the tone at all, you've got twin magnets to work with. It's calling your name...

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

But is coil tapping as good as the real deal S/c up's ???

James
coil taping is just basically cutting the power to one of the two coils on the HB so that only half of the pup is actually producing sound. Jimmy page did this to his #1 les paul so that he could pull up on the volume knob and get a SC sound. A couple of other players had this mod done too. No it will not get you that signature Fender SC twang, but it is still a SC sound. Its more of a P90 sound IMO. but thats an option to have a guitar with HB and still have it do a SC sound.

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

Classic. I've only played a friend's, but I used to own a reissue Gibby SG Jr (single P90). That was a great sounding gtr, and a Classic would make a great companion to your standard HB equipped Faded.

I still kick myself in the a$$ for selling it.

Re: My 2nd SG should be a . . . ???

I think everyone needs at least one P-90 loaded guitar.

+1. If you already have a few HH guitars, you need one with P-90's, or retro fit one with Phat Cats. If you're playing all night, at home or on stage, it never hurts to get some variety with a fat single coil. Mix things up.
