that is lookin totally sweet dude! can't wait to see it finished :) what kinda pickups you having made for that thing and how do you plan on playing it? normal style of chapman stick style?

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

hey man my luthier already has the pickups: a set of lundgren m8's cuz i LOVE the sound of my m7 in my carvin.
Its a normal guitar so im going to play it like one haha!

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

Looks beautiful. Are you putting some Lundgren pickups in?

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

and to think, I'm just trying to figure out how to use 6.

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

Looks nice.... I probably would have opted for more neck stability instead of the eye candy effect of the fretboard grain when choosing a piece for an 8-string, but still looks like it could be real cool when it´s done ;)

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

it´s Wenge ;)
Can't miss Wenge.:) It's also a great choice for extended range instruments. That whole guitar was a great wood choice, and it's beautiful, although I can't get on with that elbow crescent. I think it would have been a fantastic shape without the elbow cutaway, but you must have wanted it, which makes it the perfect shape for you, and my opinions are irrelevant. :laugh2:

I'm with Zerb on the fretboard grain, but it is pretty, and hopefully that Wenge dictates the neck movement more than the board. The extra wide 8-string neck also means more wood to stabilize, unless you have a dramatic mismatch in tension from low to high strings.

Seriously it's a gorgeous guitar, and you should be proud.

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

looks nice so far for sure.... lots of lamantion for this one... It reminds me of a bass i used to own....

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

holy sh*t.

Remove that sharkbite thing, and I'd totally be serious about grabbing one of those. Still looks good even with the cutout, but I prefet more symmetrical type guitars. But gorgeous as all hell!

Re: my 8 string custom in progress!

hey thanks guys!
first off the neck is actually a 7 piece neck with sides of wenge, maple, bloodwood, and a center piece of flame maple, and its built to be very strong.
I dont think the fretboard's stability will be much of an issue cuz i told my luthier to do whatever he could to make it look beautiful but that durability was my main concern too!
Its going to be a low F.
And as for the "sharkbite thing" yeah not everyone would be comfortable with that, but i will. I designed the guitar shape with him, and the headstock shape since he will build anything you want, so you could get ANY design you want from him. I put that cutaway there cuz thats where the input jack will be. This way i can coil the cord around the strap without twisting the cable, and accidentally removing the cable even if its not coiled will be less likely! PLUS IT LOOKS COOL haha!
