My blind hate of strats

Re: My blind hate of strats

A modded gibson-type guitar will just be a bastardized guitar.
A modded strat will simply be a unique Strat...

I hope this isn't being presented as a serious argument that's supposed to make sense.

Besides, who's copying who? I've seen a lot of Strats & Teles with humbuckers. Some Fenders have set necks, flame maple tops, and 2 volume & 2 tone controls. And who had rosewood fretboards first? And then there's the 1960's Coronado semi-hollowbodies. I don't see Gibson making Les Pauls with bolt-on necks or those little Fender single coils. Someone's been copying for decades & tried to become rather "Gibson-ish". Try less emotion, & more logic next time.

Re: My blind hate of strats

hahaha

God made Gibsons...then Satan plugged one into a Marshall and ROCK WAS BORN!

That is one really awesome quote!

So if God invented LPs, then Satan invented SGs straight away, right? I mean that in a good way, they have that "rip your balls off" look that I love.

...it's the RIG of the BEAST!!

666 cred points for whoever posts another "church music thread" and uses an SG.

Hey Empty Pockets, is that a photograph of Angus Young's internal organs?

Cheers.....................wahwah

Re: My blind hate of strats

Sweet Jesus.. that picture is the stuff of dreams...

While I love strats and teles to death, I could sell my left nut for a 61' style sg with a maestro bridge like in that picture..

Re: My blind hate of strats

I always wondered what "SG" stood for...I think you may have just answered it BigAl...

Cheers....................wahwah

SG stands for Solid Guitar.. I remmber reading that in THE GUITAR HANDBOOK by Ralph Denyer.... But I also recollect a few mistakes in that book, that was a while ago an it was the first edition..

Re: My blind hate of strats

I ve always been a strat-disliker but the only reason for this is that I dont like the way they look, the fact that everybody s got one(or more) and that I dont use out of phase sounds.
But I ve played many strats and I would be deaf if i didnt admit that strats sound good, that they are extra versatile(actually when I think versatile strats are the first thing that comes in my mind) and that their neck pickup position is pure heaven.Wish I could find a guit with the classic strat sound that didnt look like a strat.
I actually believe that if you are over 25 and you thing that strats sound bad,you are either hopeless in life generally or an one track mind metal dude.

Wow, someone's taking it WAY too personally.
First of all I do not recall EVER saying anything about somebody copying someone or making it into a Fender/Gibson deal.
Not to mention that apart from the buckers (big deal, Gibson Melody Maker anyone?) and the rosewood fretboard I haven't seen a Fender with any Gibson thing (I'm not saying they don't exist 'cause I don't know whether they do, but if they do they're probably one-offs). When talking about copies, yeah, I've seen LP wannabes that have bolt-ons and whatnot just like all the set neck, maple tops with a TOM are SuperStrat/Strat copies (i.e. not Fender) so how you got the copycat argument is beyond me.

Try less emotion, & more logic next time.
I really think you should follow your own advice, particularly on the hostility thing...

Re: My blind hate of strats

mmmkay, the local trolls are getting a bit fiesty lately, might be something in the water...

Re: My blind hate of strats

Relax, guys. This town's big enough for all of us.

Lots of different guitars = lots of different music, and that's a good thing. I don't see much copying or imitation between Fender and Gibson, with a few noted (but weird) exceptions.

IMO Gibson and Fender should both be worried about losing market share to Ibanez, Schecter, and Paul Reed Smith.

BIG +1 to both!
(Not so much for Ibanez but oh well)

Do you like Teles? You could Warmoth up a Tele with a Strat tremelo and pickup style...or get a Nashville Tele, those have a Strat middle pickup, and you could replace the neck pickup with another Strat pickup.

Actually with Warmoth the guitar could be any shape you want as long as you made it out of alder or ash, with a maple neck. I would love to see somebody with a "Stratolespaul" or something.

It's not really about whether you or I like Ibanez's or not... The fact is they're a monster in the market all over the world. The RG is the 2nd-best selling guitar right behind the Stratocaster.

It makes sense really...picture a kid who knows nothing about guitars...there's a Fender that looks like everything everybody else has played with 3 single coils and a 'standard' whammy bar...then he sees an RG with what looks like FIVE single coils (HSH) and a CRAZY SWEET-LOOKIN whammy bar (floyd rose)...if he's into soft rock and blues he'll go traditional, but if he's like a lot of kids these days he's gonna get the Ibbi.

Plus Ibanez sounds international, with Fender you're giving your money to the EVIL EMPIRE OF AMERICA
