My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

Boss.

StratD, that pedalboard with the tonelab is sick. Real wicked space management.

You're messin with me right? LOL Thought it was a rather boring board! Everythings the same color also.:chairfall:notworthy:biglaugh:

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

That is a KILLER board! The only thing I would have done differently is used 1x4 beams on the top instead of a plywood board with holes - basically the same design as a Pedaltrain. That way you would not have holes in specific points that limit you to certain pedal sizes should you decide to replace something.

And seriously, dude, are you an EH sales rep or something?

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

Nice, I like it a lot. Similar to the one I've been thinking about building for a year now.

And I think we've found someone that likes EHx as much as me! :headbang:

Is the EH stuff still so Ungodly noisey? The late 60's and early 70s stuff was..I still own a very early american made Small Stone...Pretty cool pedal..

Most of it has gotten a lot better, but I still love the tone of the vintage stuff, my DMM, DEM and Big Muff are all vintage. I figure it's kind of like Strat pickups, you deal with the noise because you like the sound.

Not a sales rep, just a fan. I'm the type of guy who knows what he likes, and likes it a lot. I am the same way with prs and mesa, as many of you surely already know. Thought of the pedaltrain idea, but I want to keep my board fairly static, as I know what I like, and I plan on having more EHX pedals, so this design worked for me.

Didn't know you liked em that much. They are cool pedals, and offer real interesting sounds, specially when you combine more than one pedal together. Someone on this board once told me the company should make me a board ; glad to hear you are in the same boat as I am.

I have no problems with noise. The voodoo labs power supply has helped so much it's not even funny, but now I am happy with my sound, and it's no louder than any other rig I have had.

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

Great job man! I really like this one.

Thanks dude. :)

I'm not messing around dude, I like it. It's got everything one needs in a very practical format. What else could you ask for.

Speaking of color, I was thinking of doing a few pedal refins on my nano pedals, to add a little style, just for fun. I'll let you guys know if it happens.

I figured EH got a handle on noise and stuff several years ago....Their old stuff was horrible....Wires going in every which way, poor soldering of components...Everything is pcb today anyway...Makes for a cleaner circuit..

Oh ok cool.....I too had a bunch of different pedals strung together on that same board with George Ls...Got tired of having connection problems.Too many wires going from the p/s over to each pedal also...When all was said and done on my earlier setup,I still didin't have any echo/delay or modulation pedals...All I had was overdrive and distortion pedals...With the ToneLab,I'm happy I can have all of the effects I'll need and I can still treat each pushbutton as an on/off switch for each type of effect....The thing sounds really good and it's a blast to mess with..Until something else comes along that I Like better! :naughty:

As the Kinks said, give the people what they want.

Nice board, Phil. Less space-constrained than mine. I love it, but it's a pain figuring out what to do when new pedals come over the horizon. For example, what am I going to do with my new SD-1 converted to Lovepedal Eternity specs?

Love the little big muff, when did you pick that up? didn't you used to have a Russian? How's it size up?

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

How do you plan on transporting it from gig to gig? Nice Job!

Right now I drive around in a PT cruiser, lol. Keeping in mind that I use a small amp for gigs, and that this car is spacious, I can fit 2 box guitar cases, my amp, my pedalboard, and still have enough room in the car for a 4x12 cab.

I had an american Big Muff Pi. Was a huge fan of the pedal and it's sound, but not of the size. Found a guy on a used gear website who wanted the bigger format pedal (for modding) in exchange for the little big muff. I pulled the trigger, and I can tell there is a slight difference in the tone between the original and the little version. The current one I have seems to have a little more bass to it, as opposed to the original which was a little trebly in my opinion. You could say the little big muff is the middle point between the american and the russian.

Rich, that is one hot looking board. Very well thought out and clean. As for mine being on the large size, I did keep in mind that this was my first serious board after many years of multi effects. I wanted to keep it big, so I could move stuff around and add it. I'm sure I will have another pedal board in the next few years, so I consider this version #1.

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

That board is wicked awesome, man! I love Love LOVE the clean look.

- Keith

Wow. Great job, like many others here, I like the clean look!

Thanks a bunch dudes. I am glad you like the looks. Being a bit obsessive about my stuff, I needed it to be clean, lol. I really put some effort into it, and with the help of Jay, I am super happy with the results.

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

beautiful work man! makes my board look like a cave man attempt

i like the uniformity and all, did all the pedals just happen to be EH or did you set out to go with EH?

Interesting how that happened. It all started with the Big Muff Pi I guess. Went to the store to find myself a pedal that would make me sound like Jack White, lol. The guy at the store pulled out an american and a russian big muff, I ended up walking with the american one. I didn't know anything about EHX or anything at the time (I'm the guy who bought a PRS without knowing what model it was, lol, so brands and models don't really matter to me). Anyways, I fell in love with it. Couple of months later, I go to search for a metal distortion, and walked out with a Metal Muff. Started thinking there was something about this company, so I started researching them.

Basically after this, I spent a lot of time playing their different pedals at stores, and falling in love with em. They have a rawness and a often very oldschool sound. I fell in love with the clone chorus line, and then discovered more of their stuff. Eventually I ended up with a bunch of them, and I continue to gas for more EHX pedals.

So yeah, it was not designed, it happened more because I love the mojo they put out, with their sometimes strange sounds ( not the stereotype of what you would expect to hear), as I find it gives my sound some character. When I have all my effects, a few people have commented on how they like my sound, because it's different.

BTW, the unsung hero of the EHX line is the LPB-1 Booster. You should see how it sounds in front of my mesa's burn channel. :)

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

^^ thats cool man. i also feel in love with the old school mojo of their pedals. just something about those big ugly housings and the vintage tinge everything has. i have the USA big muff and the Metal Muff. i hope to also have a russian muff and POG, among other things that just scream to me.

that said, i'm not all that exclusive to them. today i'm off to grab the MXR carbon copy analog delay. still pretty proggy, but in a different way from the EH stuff

btw i'm also in the market for a better pedal tuner and the planet waves one seemed like a good choice, plus my guitar idol uses one so how can i go wrong when its to much cheaper than the other stuff? but i was shocked to find out it has construction/reliability issues from some user reviews. how's your experience been with it?

Re: My home-made pedal board (PICS!)

looks great phil - very nicely done ... very cool to have those right angle 9V connectors ... i drilled holes in the top of my board for interconnects, but only had straight connectors for 9V, so it's less tidy
