My les paul has 36th, what seymour should I get?

Basically have 36th set on my LP. The guitar sounds great but now that I have another guitar to rock hard, I would like to mellow out the tones. Overall in comparison I think I would like a softer attack than the 36th. Bonus points for being covered.

thanks

I got and just finished installing the Seth lover. I am not sure it is what I am looking for. It is trebbly and honky. I actually quiet like the honky ness but I don't really like how it sounds when you roll down the tone control. I like the attack very much but maybe I want a bit more sweetness.

Preliminary I feel the output is good but the neck could be a touch hotter. Let me do more testing and get back. I got 20 days right?

Adjust the height and see if that gets you closer or farther from what you are wanting.

I like the Seth, but if it has some qualities you don't like (and can't get rid of by adjusting), I'd recommend an Alnico II Pro which certainly has the 'sweet' thing going on. It also sounds great when using a tone control.

you guys are awesome with lots of great suggestions.

I just tried the seth again after a fresh good night sleep. I don't like them. No bass, sound thin and the roll down the tone controller is bad. I do still like the attack. I will pull them and put them sale as they are nearly brand new.

The thing is the 36th other than a bit too compress on the attack, sound awesome in every shape or form. If you roll down the volume or tone, it does what you would expect. 36th are going back in. Will keep an eye out for a set of Alnico pro II.

Well you know what you like, but "no bass, sounds thin" would imply needing to raise the pickups (not saying you didn't try that)

the bridge is set at 2mm x 6th string when pressing at last fret and at 1.5mm for the 1st string. I already hear string pull when hitting hard.

I do hear good qualities. I like how the pick ups give you this singing lead tone and the pick attack is lovely but this is not my soloing guitar. I just feel the 36th is more versatile.

Re: My les paul has 36th, what seymour should I get?

I think what you're hearing is not string pull, just strings going slightly sharp from the actual hard hitting, lol. That distance seems pretty conservative for a bridge pickup.

no. I hear it when it sustains.
I guess I'll jack it up higher and see how it goes.

What amp are you running through ?

Re: My les paul has 36th, what seymour should I get?

many. Hiwatt 50 watt DR504, matchless lightning, 50 watt plexi lead specs, princeton reverb, front of my UAD sound card with several of their amp models.

But no really what I want is the 36th with more mellow attack. I am starting to think this may not be possible since what thing I love about the 36th is how great they sound with volume and tone changes which requires a healthy dose of impedance load which equals compression.
