"My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Maybe we should start our own chapter of "S.A." in this forum.
"Strats Anonymous."

Does anyone know if the pickups on the Am Std's (90s) are any different than the ones in the American Series (2000's)? I know they made some changes, especially the rolled edges on the fretboard, but have no idea about the pickups.

The pickups on the 'American' Strat are staggered, like the vintage ones. The biggest difference is in the bridge pickup...nice, fat and hot! I don't think the American Standards were staggered...

To me, they sound 100% better than any of my AS strats, including my strat that came with Texas Specials (which I generally think are ok...). So, either the guitar is 100% better or it has to be the pups.

The only pups that Fender makes that I like better than the new American series is their Fat 50's...

Awsome axe Curly, BTW!!! :)

That guitar is very pretty, congrats!

I usually pass american stds by, as they are bit shallow in the neck, but every one I've checked out recently has been superb quality. I played a transparent white one with an ash body that I swear was better than the half dozen custom shop models alongside it.

I have to tell ya that I played one of those in Kansas City at the MF outlet store...someone had sent it back b/c one of the tone pots was broken off...had some scratches on the pickguard...otherwise this transparent white ash strat was in excellent shape...$450. I'm an idiot...shoulda forked it over...I had the spare parts to fix it up in my bedroom for Pete's sake...I did get the ash (natural) strat in my avatar there though...$560 dollars with case and tax included...looked and played like brand new. :)

I thought the first thing I would be doing when I got mine was swapping out the pups, but so far I am very happy with the stock fenders.
