My new guitar is a...

yep, paid a social visit to the store I used to hang out in when I was a kid. They had a new junior in at half price. So I grabbed it, plugged it into a peavey delta blues 2x10 (the only amp in stock remotely like either of mine, and very nice I might add) and had at it. It was killer. All the honking, fat, stringy p90 tone you could ask for, and the nicest 'woman tone' rolloff I've yet come across. Plays great straight up and weighs next to nothing.

Build quality is typical modern gibson. The finish is nice, everything is well attached, but there are minor marks on the fingerboard, the frets could have been polished better, one side of the nut was a bit roughly finished and the pickguard edge could almost slice a finger. Nothing unfixable, and nothing that hinders playability or tone.

So it came home with me. My first Gibson. I love p90 guitars, and I'm starting with a classic.

Any one know any nice direct retrofit tuners for these babies?

congrats Man! She looks very pretty... dead simple but yet, I find this color much more attractive than the classic red or yellow...

Enjoy!

That's cool you finally jumped into one of those P-90 guitars! I really want one of those too, but I've chilled out on the jonesing. It probably sounds great like it is, but Duncan offers a few variations of that pickup, so that would be a fun tonal endeavor as well.

I can only imagine what it sounds like through the Vibrolux or Blue Angel.

yeah, haven't cranked it yet. What amazed me is how good it sounded with the 2x10 peavey delta blues amp. I've used that amp to demo guitars in two shops recently (one major local chain has a MAJOR shortage of quality amps in stock right now, though soon they're getting Vox and Rivera) and I've been pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds. And I'm not a fan of the classic 50s, either.

Another great little amp is the classic 20. A friend bought one and it cranks!

-man, peavey GAS. Weird...

Nice - can only imagine how good it would sound through your amp rig.

Re: My new guitar is a...

peavey g.a.s. is totally understandable bro!!! LOL!!!

and that JR is killer!!!

wait till you bring it back to the store that's gonna start carrying Riveras soon....PLUG IT INTO A FANDANGO!!!

Re: My new guitar is a...

The keys that are on there are about as good as any other non-locking tuners available. If they're the white button strip tuners about the only "improvement" you can make is finding "aged" buttons for them.

Nice score, and welcome to Gibson-land.

Re: My new guitar is a...

Someone say "Billie Jo"??

:D Looks sweet. I wouldn't mind sticking that into a Marshall stack.

Re: My new guitar is a...

Very nice Martin!!!

Wait till you throw those P90s thru the Blue Angel !!! :32: :32: :32:

If you ever swap out those pickups, I highly recommend the SD P-90 Custom-3s !!!!!! :beerchug:

haha, that's one of the first things my flatmate said: "well, you've got a nu-metal guitar (PRS), and now you've got a Green day guitar..."

I personally have nothing against Billie Jo, and he has nice taste in gear, but my frame of reference for jnrs is Leslie West, Keef, Reeves Gabrels...

Anyway, had a chance to crank it a bit on the weekend. Awesome, raw, rock'n'roll tone.

Re: My new guitar is a...

Wow nice :) .. and it will still be in style when numetal aint no more :D Good score Mr Hot Grits.
I played one of the black double cutaway specials with the p100 pickups and it was pretty sweet. I imagine that the tone would be somewhat similar. I like the look of yours much more though.

Re: My new guitar is a...
