NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

Re: NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

The LX cab sounded really clear and balanced at the store when I checked it out (if anything a bit too focussed). Much better than the other cheapo cabs I tried there (MG/Kustom/Mustang/some other one....Ashton or something...)

Looking at specs - The LV has wheels & the speakers are rear mounted while the LX is front mounted and has no wheels. Maybe that makes a difference?

....and yeah the Stonehead is tiny :D

...it finally came in yesterday :)

Sounds nuts too :D ...seriously, what a killer little piece of equipment. The demo's do it no justice whatsoever...the tones are incredible & this thing gets so tubey it's actually impossible (not just tough) to tell the difference...the feel is all there too..spot on.

Soooo versatile... I can probably get just about any tone out of it haha...& it's LOUD!

Cab's not half bad either. Turns out this is a newer LX412 model and has some new 50W Laney HH drivers in it (not rocket 50's) ...probably why it sounded so cool when I played it at the store. It's perfect with the Stonehead....fat, tight, punchy & really sweet in the mids...maybe a bit too direct/in your face (not harsh ....just extra "present") but that'll probably work itself out when the speakers break-in. As things stand, it sounds so good I'm plugging my Randall into it as well..sweet!

Man, I'm telling you, it's some Russian voodoo going on in it. Such a great feel to playing it and the sounds are incredible. I am crazy happy with mine. It does classic rock, it does, 80's, it does 90's grunge, it does modern, it does jangly, it does chimey, it slices, it dices....

Well, you get the point and now get to experience it. Congrats on finally receiving it!

Re: NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

Thanks! :beerchug:

It's actually been a hell of an experience so far ...not kidding ;)

I was actually slightly underwhelmed when I opened it up and saw how tiny it was ....but damn that did'nt last past the first second I plugged it in :lmao:

It's actually very easy to get where you want to go tone-wise...very intuitively laid out controls/options. It does'nt just do stuff (cleans/classic rock/80's metal/thrash/death metal etc..) it pretty much excels doing it all..

Re: NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

Dude you've got me interested in this. I got a dark terror a little while back now and tbh I'm wishing i went with something else. Every now and then i am like "that's a nice sounding amp" but most the time I'm wishing it had 2 channels and done a more avenged sevenfold/metallica tone. But looking at this you've got me very very interested and doing my research into these now

$700 brand new. It was worth it to me. 100%

Mine was 399/- "like new/mint" (+120 shipping from Russia) ..looks absolutely unused though (cling-wrapped/cable still in it's sealed pack/zip-locked warranty card). Very, very worth it I'd say..

I got the 230V version (not switchable) maybe that's why it was cheaper..

Not really my thing but this will definately do modern metal of every description.

The Dark Terror is a one trick pony..but it's an awesome trick! I was actually looking to buy one when I came across the discounted Stonehead. I'd pick this over a Dark Terror all day long..no regrets at all. Having said that, my DT gas will probably return someday though :lmao:

Re: NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

Did yours come in the banded wooden box with a burlap sack around it? Thats how my came from Russia. Burlap sack tied with twine and clamped with metal seal. Inside was the wooden box you had to unscrew to get the amp out. I had mine shipped to my work address and had a bunch of people curious as heck to what was in a package like that from Russia.

Re: NAD and a sweet budget 4x12 :)

No ..mine was about 3-4 layers of bubble wrap neatly taped around the banded/clamped wooden box (screwed in on top) you just mentioned..I missed out on the Burlap sack..

The ebay seller I bought it from is an AMT dealer in Moscow. He had the whole AMT line (listed as new), except this that was listed as "like new/mint" but I'm pretty sure it was new as well..just discounted.
