I picked up this older vht pitbull fifty/twelve a few days ago. This is my first vht/fryette amp. It's actualy the first I have ever seen in person as well. All I can say is wow the gain channel is more like a hotrodded jcm 800 than a mesa. I will try 6l6's in it one day but for now the el34's sound good. The clean channel is pretty similar to the vox ac30 I had. Depending on how I set the EQ and switches it almost sounds like I have a compressor on.
The class A/AB switch is a nice touch as well. The reverb is not as bad as I expected. I did have to adjust how I usually EQ my amps. For an open back 2x12 combo it is more percussive than most of the half stacks I have had. So much so that playing in my little jam room for 20 minutes made my ears feel like they wanted to pop. Overall with a good boost pedal I can see it covering a lot of styles.
I picked up the earthquaker devices arrows about a week ago. For such a simple circuit it does what it does very well. I would not use it with an already bright setup. But for darker amps it works great. I am not sure I would pay the $100 they ask but since I got it used I will not complain. Don't get me wrong it is a good pedal but someone with good soldering skills could build one pretty cheap.
