Re: NAD - Blackstar HT5RH
A few things threw me about the amp, but just user error. You have to have the amp in standby in order to use headphones. Also, you have to have the gain channel switch pushed in to use the foot pedal. I thought it was broken! No big deal though, these features are more than one deserves at this price point.
I can't tell you if that is a new thing or not I have the older Artisan 1x10 (or is it 1x12, i'm tired so IDK) and the foot pedal works no matter whats going on and also the headphones should work without it being on standby, the only thing I can think of that's different is that the headphone socket is a seperate 3.5mm thing. Sorry I aint upto date on it but I just wondered.
They are fantastic little amps, I have been brave and cranked my gain beyond noon and the volume sitting at noon and I think I pissed off the neighbours so it doesn't happen much anymore LOL. But yes, very good.
what I also can recommend is recording from the HT-5. Now there are several ways to hook the amp upto the computer so that's up to you, but the HT5 range has an emulated output which has a 1x10 or 4x12 mode, I use the 4x12 mode for recording and it sounds killer.
Also If you have a reverb pedal, chorus, phase and such, try them in the effects loop and see how you like it, Seriously play around with it, I put my Chorus pedal in the Effects loop and I find it a lot better and I think it's easier to refine the sound too, but yeah have a play see what you think.
+1 to the EQ pedal in the effects loop too, I still need to do this myself but after talking to a few people I know with HT5's of some description they always tell me it works very nicely. The type of EQ you use is again up to you. I enquired about this myself here but I am still thinking of what EQ to use, so Have a look around and If you have the chance to try them out in shops then do it.
Hope you have many days of fun with this thing :biglaugh:
