A few of the modes on these are buzzy (and useless, AFAIC ), but I don't think there is any doubt the JVM series are better built, better sounding amps overall than the VSLs... by a sizable margin.

Now..tube rolling...that I can see driving one insane on these...Even on a DSL, no one combination of pre-amp tubes sounds fantastic in all 4 modes. In fact usually one mode is compromised severely, and a second, noticably so.
It must be like finding a set of tubes that work well in twelve different amps.
The Svetlana EL34s seem to be a love/hate tube. I've not tried them, though I have come close to pulling the trigger on a pair. Some users say they are really nasal and harsh. Some say "reminds me of my old xyz toobz from yesteryear...love 'em".

I'm really digging my KT77s, but the Svetlanas are on the shortlist.
