NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Mesa Mark V!!! Hastily taken shot at the store which I battled to in rush hour traffic to get the amp before a band practice...

Loving it so far.

First impressions from about 45 mins playing it at home and then rushing to a band practice where I only used clean/medium gain tones:

- Clean tones are great. Sufficiently Fendery, and they compress just a little easier/earlier than the Super Sonic that I've got at the moment, which I like.
- Light gain tones sound very good. Feel wise, not quite as organic as my 65 Amps London Pro was, but that's to be expected. It sounds sweet enough that I can live with that.
- 10W Tweed mode + Variac power is really cool. But I found the 10W modes weren't quite able to cut through at full band noise.
- Ch 2 Crunch is awesome. Almost a hotrodded Marshall vibe to my ears, though that could just be the way I play
- Ch 2 Mk 1 is Santana all the way... not sure how much of a use I'd have for this, but it's cool to have there I guess.
- Ch 3 + graphic EQ/preset on is chug city. Haven't had too much time to explore/tweak this channel just yet.
- The Variac power option is really awesome. Completely changes the feel of the amp gain, making it a bit spongier and saggier, which I really like. More Van Halen and less John Petrucci, if you know what i mean.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased! I've streamlined my amp setup down to just TWO amps - my prized "will keep forever" Marshall AFD100 which is THE hotrodded Marshall tone for me, and the Mark V, which really will do almost everything else.

Nice amp. Something I'd love to aspire to, but even if I can afford one (which I probably can), no way could I justify one. A 5:25 or a Recto-verb? now... just... maybe...

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

YEAH BUDDY

I want one of those uber badly. I know there are other Mesa amps more suited to what I'd use a Mesa for, but I still want one really really really badly.

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Thanks fellas! Still trying to slowly absorb how to drive the amp, since every mode reacts like a completely different amp... Gonna have to start taking photos of my settings soon :D

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Someday I will join that club. Looks great! Enjoy it!

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Congratulations! It seems like it may be the most versatile tube amp made by anyone at this time.

I have a DR 3 channel and a 5:50+ which are awesome, but if I was buying now, I think the MK V would be at the top of the list.

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

I have the combo and I love it! Got usable tones from all three channels in less than five minutes. I also have Mark IIIs and a Mark IV combo, and the V is really something special.

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

I truly am loving the versatility. I still haven't quite figured out what I want to do with Ch 2, but I've nailed down some kick ass tones for the other two! :D

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Dude, congrats on your Boogie acquisition! Really, really nice! That would be my first choice of any amp on the planet hands down!

Re: NAD!! Mesa Boogie content

Congrats. One day I will own a Mark V. For now, I do alright with the DC-5.
