NAD: MESA contenf

I've been eyeballing this amp for years now. A few days ago I finally pulled the trigger. Couldnt pass up a deal on Ebay. It's practically new.

The amp chasis was originally housed in a combo. Previous owner got a custom head built by mojotone.

I know the value is probably shot, but honestly if I ever sold it, could probably recoup money spent.

Wow! So what's this amp's deal? I get confused with all of the Mesa models. Is this one more Marshally?

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

it's more of an inbetween amp. Recto meets Marshall. Its a discontinued model, people either love it or hate it, the ones who hate it expected a Marshall. Which isnt the case. Its British voice with El34, but still holds Mesa characteristics. I believe this is stage I version which is more vintage gained. Stage II reversioned the gain stages which brought it to more metal characteristics on higher gain stages.

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

ya i dig the cab. slightly larger heightwise by maybe 3 inches compared to a regular sized head. widthwise not sure. definitely not many of these out there, which is cool. it gives off a unique factor.

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

dont sell it. keep it around especially for recording. Its nice to double amp voices on recordings to fatten the signal and this amp will do that. besides, you can always make it a "gig out" head. most people gig out with even less quality. you cant go wrong with this at some beer bar. Its Mesa, its built like a tank, and it will take abuse just fine. good score!

I love the Stiletto Ace!

Kinda been looking for one; saw one in Seattle last weekend, but couldn't swing the deal.

One of the things that will surprise people about the Ace is the clean tone. I could easily see using an Ace 112 combo on a jazz gig with a big archtop. Really great tone. I have way too many amps at the moment but this is one I would love to add to my collection.

Nice score!

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

think what else you would get in that price range that would even come close to the same quality..............................um ya, not much else, you did well.

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

Its British voice with El34, but still holds Mesa characteristics.

This interests me, since, very broadly, I associate British with mids emphasis and Mesa with mid scoop.

Would the Stiletto be more like a JVM, i.e., higher gain, tighter low end, etc.? Does it have the high mids spike and the brown sound/graininess/sizzle/etc. that generally means "Marshall"?

Re: NAD: MESA contenf

mmmmm Mesa makes some nice stuff, I love my 50 Cal +, next amp I am definitely going for from their range is either an MK V or Lonestar.
