Best amp I have ever played. Plugged into some Dr.Z amps, a lot of Orange, some H&K stuff, some fender custom shop, a Mesa MarkV, the entire Rectifier series, the Lone star, and this came out on top.
She's a 2009 Stiletto Ace Head. 50 watts, running on 2xEL34 tubes. Modeled after brit rock amps, and it delivers. 2 channels, 3 modes each, with selectable rectifiers right on the front panel. Also has a bunch of neat little features, like a bypass switch for the effects loop, master volume for each channel combined with a master volume that controls the volume of both channels once they are relative. Anyways, if you want full specs, they are out there.
I'll be running it through a rectifier series horizontal 2x12, with v30s. I know it seems strange to get rid of the Express after singing it's praise for so long. The reason I did it is simple : The express what a great jack of all trades amp. It covered all the bases I wanted, and was versatile. It allowed me to truly find my voice. I found myself zoning into the sound I wanted, and eventually knowing exactly what I wanted : a marshall sound, with more gain.
Well this amp does just that. The second I plugged it in, I knew I wanted it. It does the vintage brit rock sound, but with amazing clean headroom (thanks to the selectable silicone diode rectifier), and nasty, wicked gain on the second channel.
If my Express was a 9 on 10, this amp is a solid 10. I decided to go for it, because it offered me a specific flavor that the Express didn't have. I suppose you could say where the Express was good at everything, the one thing it was missing was commitment to a specific style, or tone.
There is no lack of style in this one. It's built to rock, and sounds just great. I could of went for a deuce or trident, but there was something about the Ace that just worked for me. I let my ears decide. It was actually a floor model, and didn't come with the slip cover or manual, so I got it for a song, compared to what they usually go for. Brought it home, shined her of with tolex cleaner and gentle compressed air, and now she looks like new (as she is really).
So yeah, I am happy. Going through the infamous dial in period, but I'm already getting tones that put a smile on my face.
Cheers
