NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Maybe it's because it has... TUBES!? :eyecrazy:

Yessir. After more than ten years as a guitar player, I finally got my first tube amp ever. And it's pretty damn good.

It's an Egnater Tweaker 15 head.

(WARNING: This next bit is quite boring)

As you may know, the Tweaker 15 is a single channel amp with two 6V6 power tubes, loaded with lots of mini-toggles that let you tailor the sound and response:
Vintage/Modern voicing at the power section, Tight/Deep for the bass response, Bright/Normal explains itself, Hot/Clean engages a whole different amp altogether, and the Fender/Vox/Marshall voicing at the pre section.
It has a buffered - is that line level? It has that too, if it isn't - FX loop that probably won't work with my EHX Memory Toy, which is a shame.
It can operate with 6V6, 6L6, EL34, 5881 and KT66 power tubes too.

So in short, the palette of tones is huge. :D

The Fender sounds are spectacular. Detailed in the highs and deep as a bell in the lows, it made my drummer's kit vibrate like crazy with just a 1x12 cab.
With my SSS Strat it's pure Mark Knopfler.
The dirty sounds here are pummeling! Very dynamic and in your face.

The British cleans were of course a bit darker and more middy. Very reminiscent of Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple/Rainbow.
Taking the Master Volume well past 7 while on the Clean setting delivers some nice early Aerosmith and AC/DC tones with humbuckers.
On the Hot channel it's pure JCM800 and it's pretty convincing at that, more compressed and real chunky.

The Vox voicing is nothing like any classic Vox tone I can remember. It's more scooped than the Fender model and it has more bite in the upper mids.
Distorted it's more of a 5150/Rectifier voicing if you ask me. It loves humbuckers, got some seriously heavy tones here.

Overall it's extremely versatile and goddamn loud too.
And it manages to keep some usable headroom even while loud as hell.

The only bad thing is that in stock form, the high gain sounds are slightly muffled/muddy. But from what I've read here, changing the preamp tubes fixes it.
So no big deal.

My poor old Cube 60 has nothing that can compete with the Tweaker, except for high gain definition and clean headroom.

What can I say? I always knew I would eventually get a tube amp, but I never expected it to be this good for such a low price.

I'll take some proper pictures with a real camera and not my crappy Blackberry, and I'll put them here.

Tubes rock. :D

Congrats!

Thinking back ... I got my first valve amp in 1986. That's when you were born!! :)

****ing awesome, dude!! I've been waiting for this day since I joined this forum. Seriously happy for you. Enjoy the hell out of it. :beerchug:

Have you found your favourite setting for it yet? How are you running it? Clean with a pedal? Touch of gain, a pedal and dynamic picking technique? High gain with the volume knob?

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tube Amps. There is no going back now bro......your journey has just begun. Congrats!!!

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Because it's got souped up lightglobes in it!

Twilight, I was born in 1985 actually, it's gonna be my 27th birthday in May. :D
What amp was that?

Kam, thanks for the good thoughts man!!
You wouldn't believe how much fun I had today testing it. The feel of power tubes saturating is just exquisite.

Today for rehearsal I used the Marshall model with my mahogany Ibanez "PRS" SZ as I call it :D .
So I had some very nice clean sounds with split humbuckers, and a big fat roar with a UOA5 Screamin' Demon in the bridge.

I didn't try any pedals. I've got a Keeley Blues Driver, a Marshall Jackhammer and a Metal Muff + Top Boost dirtwise, and a EHX Memory Toy and a Boss GE7. Simple stuff, really.
I'll put the pedals in front pretty soon and see how they interact with the dirty sounds, and well as trying them while fully clean.

Too bad the amp's staying at the rehearsal room...

And everyone else, thanks too! Loving that picture!

Nice! A fellow Gemini? (Or whatever we are called now that there is another sign of the Zodiac)

It is a Laney AOR 30 head, which I still own and use!!

Disappointed in the lack of pics, but still happy for ya.

Welcome to tubeland duder! Happy NAD!

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

It's a brave new world, senor. Now you get to enjoy another world of tweaking, with tube rolling, etc. It's wonderful, frustrating, and every once in a while extraordinarily rewarding. Much like a relationship with a woman, except when the amp cries, you usually want it to.

When I want a woman to cry, Mr Backhand makes sure she does.

Oh and congrats again, Diego. I'm stoked for you - those are great amps.
