NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Nice! A fellow Gemini? (Or whatever we are called now that there is another sign of the Zodiac)

It is a Laney AOR 30 head, which I still own and use!!

Yeah. Girls cringe everytime they hear I'm a Gemini. Silly girls. :D

I once played the AOR 50, sick amp!! Cool that almost 30 years later you still have it. I hope to get a long run like that with this one.

Once you get the hot molten glass in your system, you'll never go back. :) You might still add in a solid state toy here and there, but man, tubes are where it's at.

Yeah man. The difference in detail and response is huge. It really shows at slightly overdriven sounds.
At least my Cube 60 couldn't do those sounds with authority.
The breakup got lost in fizz and all you got in return was nothing. It's way flatter in comparison.

Another thing is the feel of the sound overall.
The Cube 60 sounds contrived through all of it's models (except the JC120 model which I still think is phenomenal),
the EQ felt unnatural and forced, sort of "You shall not pass beyond THIS point because we want it to sound this way".
So for instance you couldn't dial the honk out of the Marshall sounds, or the fizz out of the Rectifier sounds.

While with the Egnater, the EQ is MUCH more responsive and honest.

My bandmates also pointed out how in the same room, through the same cab, the Egnater sounds 3D and sort of surrounding. That's a new one.

Also, and this is a big one, the difference in sound between my guitars is HUGE now.
I thought my Ibanez was sounding kind of honky with the UOA5 Demon in the bridge. I thought so with the Cube.
Not even close!
Through the Egnater it sounds brilliant, clear but pushing the mids and huge in the lows.

Trippy. :D

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

For some reason this thread title reminds me of a classic Frank Zappa line "why does it hurt when i pee?"

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

The glow is the welcome home glow, like a warm log fire in the fireplace, warming your body and soul like no electric heater ever could.

That glow tells you that you are home, you and your guitars. It connects you with history and with your own heart. Ever listen to somone speaking on a valve radio ?? It's just a whole other dimension compared to the same voice on a s/s radio.

Welcome to organic music. Enjoy it fully.

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Couldn't agree more with Crusty. SS is a picture of a tube amp, whereas the tube amp itself is a rounded, fully 3D thing in comparison.

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

Open, with a Eminence Legend 125. A bit on the bright side if I'm honest, but it still pushes some nice lows and it sounds clear.

I might change the speaker to a Swamp Thang or a Governor or something. I'll think about it after out next gig which is next Friday.
It could be lacking a bit of low mids, but I'm not 100% positive yet.

Or maybe I should just buy a 2x12?

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

get a gb128, they're great and cheap, 1258 are g12t75 clones, meaning scooped mids

Re: NAD!! Why does it glow on the inside??

C-Rex is a nice choice for taming the high end, and warming up the low mids.
