NAD

Re: NAD

I never like to assume when it comes to things like this. Though I would hope that it would be the case. It would make my life a lot easier if it were.
It really is a good sounding amp. If I had to, I could just set it to manual, choose one amp model and run my dirt boxes through it. But once I get it all set up, I should just be able to use it by itself and get just about any sound that I want.

Congrats! Cool score. I was given a Line6 Spider Valve with short board. The 40 watt Bogner tube combo deal. I never did delve into the deeper tweak aspects, but found a killer clean setting that loved my old Marshall Blues Breaker pedal. I lived on that setting for a long time (and still could!) and it was a seriously good amp. I sold it a year or so ago, but if would not hesitate to get another if needed.

Many think "Why buy a modeling amp if you're not going to take advantage of the modeling"? My theory is if you can find one or two tones that do it for you and the amp takes your fav pedals well, why not? Around here, the used Line6 stuff can be found stoopid cheap. Of course, cheap is just cheap if the tone isn't there, but a little bit of time spent tweaking can result in some great tones for very little dollars.

Re: NAD

Over the years I have generally stuck with compression, boost, overdrive and distortion for my effects. Occasionally I would use wah and eq. However, I do like some of the modulation and delay available in this amp. I want to get it set up so that each bank has two clean sounds and two dirt, one of each being for leads. It might take a while, but I like messing with things like this, so it will give me something to do.

Re: NAD

This thing is ridiculous. I've spent the evening switching between Marshall and Mesa. Good thing I've never been able to afford to own either, so I have no idea as to how far the modeled tone is off from the originals. I do know one thing; the master volume was at 3. When I rolled the volume up, it hit hard enough that I almost had to change my shorts.

Re: NAD

Given that I'd never be able to afford any of the amps that they were modeled on, they sound good enough to me.

Re: NAD

Put it on manual and dialed through the various amp models tonight. The class A's have some serious thump and clean up with the guitar's volume knob, as one would expect. The Twang settings have a nice top end, serious spank with the drive turned up. The Blues models did as expected, and got downright nasty with a tubescreamer in front of them.
Going to have to get brave and post a video.
