NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

That's a lovely bit of kit. Did you get the road case too?

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

I can't say I blame you regarding the drive. I like stopping by Wildwood whenever I'm up that way. Was easier when I was going to CU in Boulder. Don't get up that way much unless I'm driving to take a look at a guitar or amp off CL. Never looked at Guitars etc. but I'll have to look them up.

I work less than 10 mins from Wildwood, I only go there when I need something, which usually just strings or something, and run in and out, they are always busy online, just the way of the world now. Hard to believe a little corner shop like that has the inventory they do, it's not displayed in the shop. I wish I could afford to guitar shop there, but I don't even want to look at anything unless I have $2.5K in my pocket, and I don't remember the last time that happened. They do have great stuff, but you kinda have to make an appt so they can have the guitar you want to look at available. Of course last time I was in there grabbing strings there was one of the $25K Franken-copies laying on the couch, they said they were just playing around with it and it sounded amazing.

Anyway, sorry for the side track, that Lonestar is beautiful, love the Mesa custom cabs, you'll have to give an update when you get it home!

Oh yeah, a maple 2-12 combo in a flight case, you're going to need to hire a crew... :18:

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Btw what IS it with Mesa and their no-16-ohm-taps policy?

Marketing trick to sell more cabs and/or discourage people from A/Bing with other brands? Always kinda ticked me off.... especially since unlike joe average I actually realize any 16ohm 212 or 412 can be rewired to 4ohm, but it's just a damn hassle and annoying

With Mesa it seems to depend on the amp's design heritage. Their Mark series (and similar) have a Fender heritage and use an 8-ohm output transformer. Rectos are derived from SLOs which have a British heritage, so they have 16-ohm OTs. It's just a guess, but I'm guessing they choose which OT to use based on the coloration they're after.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

That is beautiful wood- my Mesa is covered in blue leather.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

As for the ohms/OT situation. I had a Lonestar special (combo) for years . As I recall the the thing had two speaker jacks and no info regarding load. Seems it was engineered to handle 2-16 without much complaint. I ran various configs with the internal + external cabs. Thing always worked and sounded great no matter the load.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Wow.... out of all the Mesa’s the Lonestar is the only one I’ve really wanted for some reason and that one is pure beauty AND bad-assery. Nice one and enjoy, Merry Christmas to you bud.... Ho ho ho.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Can’t wait to hear your full review after you get it home and put it through its paces!

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

The Lonestar has, imo, the nicest overdrive channel of any amp I have ever played.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Brought it home on Monday. Didn’t get to try it out until last night after my work Christmas party and only got 15 minutes with it but no disappointment with the tone...everything that I heard over the last few months of playing it in the store that made me want to buy it. Amazing cleans but very full while still crystalline and the trademark Mesa singing sustain on the overdrive channel.

That looks awesome, I wouldn’t even worry about any sound coming out of it!

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Holy mother of amplifiers! That is some sweet fender - I mean Mesa - goodness!

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Please enlighten me how to rewire a 16ohm 2x12 to 4 ohms, would you?

Easy. Wire the two 8-ohm speakers in parallel instead of series. In the extremely unlikely circumstance that the speakers are each 32 ohms (they do exist), you're S.O.L.

You know, i am an idiot. it was late when i posted that, and i was thinking 2 16ohm speakers, not 16ohm total load... ugh. my bad

In fairness to your late night brain, a good number of 2x12” cabs are 8 ohms with two 16 ohm speakers.

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Love that amp!

But if you are going to move it around, protect your investment and get the anvil case, or at minimum, a Tuki padded cover.

Enjoy!

Bill

Re: NALD: Boogie Private Reserve Flame Maple Lone Star

Lol - it’s serving as both a lovely decorative furniture item and an awesome sounding amplifier! Only travel/moving it will do is onto a stand of some sort to get it up off of the floor. ;)
