I don't need a great distortion channel because I like classic overdrive. so I'm probably just gonna buy a modded ts-9 from ebay and throw it in front.

Re: Narrowed it down to the Traynor and the Peavey....

Hey, sorry it took so long to get to the post. I have a peavey classic 50 212 and love it to death. When I bought it, i felt it was the best stock guitar amp in its price range by far. After a few simple mods at blueguitar.com the amp is simply amazing. The clean channel is phenominal and the overdrive is great for classic rock. I can get great AC/DC tones out of it. It also preforms equally well for blues and country. The amp can get heavy as well. I play lead in a punk/blues/ska/metal band and my tones suits all of the styles except the heaviest metal(with a pedal it would) i do not have any clips and im not sure if i can get some running. I will try to get some but it may take about a week to get some up since my amp stays at my practice area. I have tried a Traynor frequently at my local music store, and i think the peavey is a much better purchase. The traynor just didnt give as much versatility as the peavey and the peavey cleans suited my style much better as well as its overdrive, My style is very very versitle as you can see. While alone I play blues, but i play with a band that pushes my style deep into the hard rock catagory while still bringing out my blues as well as ska sounds. BTW here is a site with some classic 30 clips i thought were mildly useful when i bought my amp: http://www.chrissnider.net/amp_clips/index.htm
Best of luck on you tone quest,
Brian

thanks brian, You made that peavey sound good. haha I'm gonna start puttin some paychecks away and see if i can catch a ride in town to a music store that has one and try it out. Then i'll try to get one off of ebay. and thanks for the link to the site, and if makin those clips is a hassle don't worry about it, thanks for the help!

I have the Classic 30. If you buy the Classic 50 my advice (if you decide to "mod" it) would first be to get a balanced set of JJ's from Bob at www.eurotubes.com. I told Bob what I was looking for, went with his recommendation and the JJ's really brought my amp to life. The only other "mod" I did was to add a Celestion Greenback in another cabinet and I could'nt be happier. I have no doubt that the mods at blue guitar are great, but I did'nt like the idea of taking my amp apart.

whoops i forgot to add replace the tubes. After i modded my amp i ended up with some EHx since i brought a lot more of a dark sound into the amp and i wanted a little brighter tubes, however, i do believe that JJs rock in a stock classic amp.
Cheers,
Brian

Re: Narrowed it down to the Traynor and the Peavey....

The Traynor, IMHO, sounds better. I compared them side by side (actually, one store then drive to another), I really liked the Traynor. I lot of people will just say peavey and have never heard the traynor. They are kind of harder to find to demo; everybody carries peavey. Don't get me wrong, the peavey is a good amp, but the Traynor is better. It comes stock with a celestion speaker and the OD channel (actually channel 1), SMOKES the peavey. No contest.
