NCD 412

Picked this up a couple days ago for $60 and didn't get around to posting it.

Surface rust on the grill and a few screws, Corners were repainted multiple times, Torn tolex, and the casters are shot and need replacing.

On sunday I'm going to the shop and I'm going to respray the metal parts, No idea what color I want for the metal as I haven't decided on what tolex I'm putting on it.

No EST on completion time as I have too many other projects going.

Call Peavey, or try their forum. They should be able to help.

That's a nice score and a good cab. It should clean up well.

Re: NCD 412

I was informed by Peavey that it's an '03. I assumed older because of the wear on it, But I guess it was gigged heavily.

Uhh... Is it just me or is the cross brace kinda slanted? Should I fix that?

$60 bucks? that's a steal. And unless that cross brace seems unstable, I'd leave it alone.

Re: NCD 412

I'm curious how easily you took the speakers out of it? I want to see what speakers are in a cab I just bought and it appears to be like this where the speakers come out individually and the back is just the input the back doesn't screw on or anything other than the input

It looks like they mount from the front into some sort of T-nut.

Bingo. Bolts into T-nuts.

Re: NCD 412

So how easy would it be to take one out and then put it back on? I really want to know what speakers i have but I don't wanna screw it up

Lay the cab on it's back and unscrew the four screws and pull the speaker out. The T-nuts should stay put, and if they don't, just push them back in.

Re: NCD 412

Went down to the shop yesterday and brought the grill, corners, and handles to get worked on.

Dents beat out of the grill, Sanded and primed as of 6pm yesterday.

Corners are getting sandblasted and handles repainted black because they wore down to bare metal.

Re: NCD 412

Just make sure everything is tight, as I'm sure you will, since you're refurbishing it. Cosmetics are secondary to the fact you got a bunch of good speakers and a cab for the price of one speaker.

Re: NCD 412

I just figured because I have a Carvin cab and combo that use T-nuts; it keeps the bolts from stripping the wood of the baffle. I have a single 12" cab that has both T-nuts, along with lock washers between double nuts on the other side of the speaker. I figure that baby ought not to loosen for quite a while.

Re: NCD 412

I've been racking my brain for the past week or so with what to do about the handles because I hate them, Enough for me to look for metal replacements for several hours.(To no avail of course)

Pictured is the unbroken handle, The other is shattered in several places.

WP_20141105_006.jpg
The handles on this thing consist of a plastic shell and an aluminum handle, The plastic is so brittle that it practically disintegrates when you touch it. That being said the dimensions are so ill thought out that I can only replace them with the same junk it already has...

Dimensions are 6-7/8"X8-1/4", Cut out: 5-1/4"X6-3/8" Cerwin Vega uses them, As do a few other companies.

I wanted to cut the hole larger and throw some metal Marshall style handles from Scumback on it but the cutout hole is an inch too wide to use them and I don't know what to do about the gap it would have.

Anybody have a solution to this?

Re: NCD 412

Let me rephrase what I was trying to say.

The current handles in my hands are junk and I refuse to replace them with the same thing because they'll break as soon as I start gigging it regularly.

I've checked out Scumback, Mojotone, PartsExpress, AmpRepairParts, Guitar Nucleus, TubesAndMore, and another 25 I can't remember. The problem Isn't that I can't find handles, It's that I can't find direct replacements made of metal. Instead I want to buy metal handles and figure out how to make them fit, It's literally only an inch difference in the cutout hole on the cab and every handle I can possibly replace it with.

Meaning I would have to fill in the inch gap with something. If I fill in the existing hole with a new chunk of the same thickness plywood to give the new handles something to grab, How would I attach the new ply to the old ply to make it support the 97lbs cab?

Re: NCD 412

What are the hole dimensions

Carvin ought to.make something useful

If not add a piece of wood or metal painted black

Noone but you will look close enough to.see it

Re: NCD 412

Cut a section the same size as the fill you want to make in the hole

Then mount it on a larger piece of scrap

Glue it from the inside
So the fill piece fits the hole

Fill piece on bottom of hole not top

Re: NCD 412

I've had several cabs with those handles (including and MS412) and never had problems with them. I've got the same handles on 30+ year old Kustoms right now.
