NDBD! New Death Bass Day

Snickerdoodle Milk
This is my new Death Bass. Like I really need another Bass. That makes 3 now.
But this one has 5 strings and 2 MM humbuckers. Its last years special model from Music Man.
Rosewood fretboard. The dark kind is my favorite.
Roasted Birdseye Maple Neck...for better presence and sustain.
Glossy Black paint with Gold metal flakes...very hard to photograph.
Killer Low notes...like no other.
Razorblade inlay on fretboard.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

I don't play death metal, but thrash, metalcore and progressive metal are sure enough handled by my Sterling SUB 5.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

Nice maple. My fretless Stingray is black ... where the paint is still on it. I don't get on with the string spacing or scale length on the Stingray V.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

The black and gold combination has always been one of my favorites.
I plan on putting a .145 string on the bottom and moving the B string over..

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

I just called back to the store to make sure...He says its a 34 inch scale and the low B is .130
Therefore a .145 should be a lower note..perhaps Ab or G.
And there is a .175 string for people that want a Low F# on the bottom.
I dont intend to go quite that Low.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

I don;t know I think after a low B, there's such thing as too low. That's why I don't have any sort of attraction to 8 string guitars.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

Thats how it came from the factory with .130 is B.

So if I put a .145 on the bottom and tune it up to B then it will be to tight.

Tighter is Brighter. Death Metal is a rather dark tone. If i force a note into existence by tightening the string ..it would be like shooting myself in the foot before i begin..and i would be losing the dark dropped tone that I need.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

Anyway if B is the second string then F# should be the Low note to keep the standard tuning pattern of intervals of 4ths.
B is the 4th of F# not G. So EADGBEADGB does not work if B is the second string.
The following string should be the 4th of the previous until arriving at G then the next one is only a 3rd above. But its only 1 fret from the 3rd to the 4th. However a .175 on the bottom will do F# and B would be the 4th above.
But a .175 is enormous and I would have to drill the tuning peg out and ream the nut saddle and the bridge saddle...a huge job.
Maybe ADGCE would work with .145 on the Bottom...will check on it later.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

I usually flat my high string a half step on all my guitars which makes the minor tone a bit more convenient.
Dropping and raising the high string a half step as needed is no problem except when the string alloy is not slinky enough.
As long as the first 4 strings are arranged at intervals of 4ths...then the standard chord patterns will be available...and the 5th string on a 5 string bass can be a 3rd or 4th above the fourth string whichever you prefer...in my case i tend to move it up and down as needed.

*growl voice* NO SUCH THING AS TOO LOW!

Jk, there is such a thing as too low, but it most be some frequency out of the human range of hearing.

Re: NDBD! New Death Bass Day

I love Goth Metal, Alternative Metal, ...any kind of Metal.
This Bass will add the correct type of tone to the project.
I use a M9 Carbine 900 watt tube amp and the full Mesa Powerhouse ...yep i got both cabs the one with 6 10's and the one with 4 10Is and a 15 in the center.
Will smoke yo ase
