Neck Change On Ibanez

The New Guy

I have a ibanez rg 421 with a maple/ rosewood neck...the guitar is a hard tail so no locking nut. My question is, if I were to replace the neck with a maple / maple neck from an Rg 550 with a locking nut would I have any problems?

I understand that the two weren't designed to work together and it would require either locking the nut and not having fine tuning capabilities (which would be a drag), or removing the nut and replacing it with a standard nut ( which I assume would require adding wood where the locking nut used to be?), or just leaving the top clamp off of the locking nut ( which I'm not sure about).

I want a maple fretboard on this guitar but it wasn't offered from the factory.
Please tell me what would be involved and what the best route to take on this.

Thanks in advance, Scott.

Yup, both all access neck joints...thanks for the help! Can anyone recommend what to do with the locking nut situation? How hard would it be to remove it and replace it with a standard nut?
