Neck HB in my Tele?

Hey everyone,

I have an alder bodied Highway 1 tele that I'm considering dropping a neck humbucker into. I have an extra PGn pup around and I thought I might try it.

If I put the PGn in, what bridge pup should I use to match it well? Output and tone wise, I mean. I was considering a JD model as I've heard it's smooth and overall not too harsh. I'm really new to the tele and your input is appreciated.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Actually, I'd go with the STL-2 Hot Tele lead tapped. I have it in my MIJ Thinline with a nickel covered PG and they balance very well, plus with the tap, you get acces to great traditional tones as well as big, burly hot-rod tele tones in normal operartion.

Re: Neck HB in my Tele?

I have an A2P in the neck of my Tele which is not far from a PGn, the stock Fender bridge pu and the SD Vintage Stack I have in it now don't have enough juice to compete. I'm waiting on a QP I'm getting from a forum member and I'm sure that will make me happy. I play 70's punk style music and need the extra beef. The Hot might be the way to go if u want to retain the Tele vibe. I've also tried a Hot Rails bridge and it was too much(not bad if all u play is metal) it doesn't sound like a Tele on the clean sounds.

That's a couple of good ideas. I wanted to stay with a somewhat 'Tele' kind of sound. Does the Ant I sound teleish without the classic icepick?

I was going to use the PGn because it's not being used...maybe I'll try a Phat Cat instead? I wonder if it would match the more vintage tele bridge pickups' output?

Thanks
Mark

The leaner bass response on the Phat Cat should help it balance a little better with a traditional Telel lead pickup.

I still think you'd like the STL-2. It has a great traditional sound when tapped without any ice-pick highs. :)

This is especially true if you're more of a rock player than a country player.

Sometimes, I feel like I need more push from my Tele than the Jerry Donahue has in my ash Fernandez. When this happens, I just pickup my Thinline RI with the PGn/STL-2 combo and get 98% of that tele tone with more perceived "balls". :burnout:
