Neck Opinions please

Re: Neck Opinions please

If you want an oil finish on a Warmoth neck, without losing their warranty get one of their baked maple necks. They will warranty them with no finish so, you can choose to put the oil on or not with no downside.

I need to get some money... Cuz I really want a baked maple CBS headstock Wolfgang profile neck cut for an R2 locking nut... :32:

Re: Neck Opinions please

Gas inducing thread

Yea I reads what the said about the neck profiles

But I don't have any experience with the wizard neck mine are wizard II

And the only Fender is my MIM standard

I like the wizard II necks and was wondering how the II compared to the original wizard neck

The standard thin I would assume would be the same as what's on my MIM

Those asymmetric shapes are curious . But I don't want spend $300 to find out I don't like them.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I can definitely tell you the standard thin is pretty much identical to the MIM Strat profile for sure. Beyond that I only have experience with the boatneck and 59 roundback profiles from Warmoth.

Of course, if you have one of those calipers big enough to measure neck profiles it should be pretty easy to figure out as Warmoth has their dimensions posted somewhere on the site around the neck profile information.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I do have a set of those calipers
I looked and compared the measurements from said candy apple squire
And the dimensions listed on the Carvin site for their necks

And if I remember correctly the Carvin necks were closer to the wizard neck than the Fender

I do like the thinner neck

How does the.wolfgang neck compare
I'm sure someone finds it more comfortable for.some reason or other

I'm leaning wizard at the.moment
But the standard size would be less expensive

Hmmm

I actually replaced a Warmoth Wizard neck on my Line6 Variax with a Warmoth Wolfgang neck. The Wizard felt pretty accurate to the Ibanez Wizard II profile that most of their guitars have. However, I don't like that profile much, either. Way too thin for me.

The Wolfgang profile is a tad chunkier than a standard Fender modern C shape, but the asymmetrical shape makes it feel so nice in the hand. It's very much like my Peavey Wolfgang neck.

Which reminds me... I do have that Wizard neck, still, AND the Earvana nut that came on it, and I have no use for it.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I have to get my hands on a wolfgang neck
and see what that is
I do remember trying one of the $400 wolfgangs a few months ago and thinking how nice the neck felt
would that be the same neck shape?

The new Fender/EVH Wolfgang is a somewhat thinner C shape, not the older asymmetrical shape.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I bought a used G&L Legacy with an Earvana nut and I'm not that impressed. Unfortunately, whoever installed it used the wrong model--the wider full nut, when they should have chosen the model for Fender guitars that has a shelf and fits in the regular narrow slot. It would be an expensive deal to go back to a fixed nut.

I'm not a big fan of the LSR nut for the reasons Guitar Doc gave.

There's something to be said for a properly cut Tusq, graphite or bone nut. That's all you need.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I like my Warmoth necks. I have two 24.75 conversion necks. One is a standard profile mahogany neck with an ebony board on mahogany "soloist" body. The other is a maple "boatneck" with a pao ferro board on an ash tele body.

The mahogany neck has stainless frets and all my future builds will get them. There's something about the stainless frets that I really like.

Re: Neck Opinions please

I like the stainless steel frets too. I've got the SS6100 stainless steel frets on my 59 roundback Indian rosewood 24.75" Warmoth neck. All my future necks will likely have those frets as well.

Re: Neck Opinions please

For what you'll spend on a nice replacement neck, you could sell the Squier and upgrade to a Mexican fender.

I would just keep the Squier and get the neck. A Warmoth neck is higher quality than any MIM neck by a large margin and is usually higher quality than most MIA Fender necks too. Considering the neck is really the backbone of a guitar it just doesn't make sense to settle for a MIM neck over a Warmoth neck... ever.

As I stated above in posts #11 and #23
I have a MIM and several other strats

I want a tilt back headstock
I want a tusq nut
I want stainless steel frets
I want a compound radius neck

and at the moment I am contemplating various back of the neck profiles

these qualities aren't available on a standard MIM

Thanks tho
