need a back up head in place of a 5150

I need a back up for my 5150 head....or i may posiblly A/B another head for cleans, but i can't afford anything much over 400 bucks. It will prolly have to be a solid state amp. What about the Randall RH100 head..or any other Randall heads? I hear they over heat really bad. I was looking into the Peavey XXL head also. I just need something that will give me good cleans...and a nice distortion close to something like the 5150. Or anything for hard rock. What would make a good back-up head?

I would get a used XXX they seem to be going over 500 bucks on ebay...thats where i got my 5150 head. Got it for $380. I thought that was a great steal. Just can't seem to find any that cheap now.

Found a JCM 800 2205 in a Pawn shop around here for $450. Needs re-tubed and Biased ( which I can do ).... Want it ???? :)

I own a 1985 2205 ... you will probably never go back to the 5150! Your "backup" will become your main amp!! :burnout:

Re: need a back up head in place of a 5150

if your looking for an inexspensive clean head. the roland jc-120 head (you have to buy it used and its hard to find) is great. solid state. this is more of an amp that if you run across it. you buy it, not something you really search out for

another resort (yet again used) is any of the sovtek heads.. great stuff, i have a Mig-60 in the mail for me right now (search on ebay for sovtek mig) best thing is its all tube.. you wouldn't have to settle on solid state. cons about it are sovtek doesn't do amps so no customer service. but for the price.. they are worth it
