Need Advice for Buying Next Guitar

Hi there! I've got some around 600 bucks to burn and I would love to get a new guitar for the collection. The tone I think I want to go for is similar to a Tash Sultana or Sean Cimino vibe, so a really clean kind of indie/alternative thing that can be run through a number of pedals without getting muddy. I already have a beautiful PRS and a lovely Strat so I'm ruling those out(thought I doubt I would go for it anyway). So what would you recommend for something like this at around or below 600? What would you recommend if I held off and saved up some more? Thanks in advance!

Well - I have no idea who those people are. But....

Without getting muddy through effects? That's a function of the effects and the amp and the settings mostly. The best of guitars can get crapped up with a bad amp and pedal. And decent ones can sound great if you know where to set the knobs.

And pickups are the next most important part, regardless of the guitar.

Saw a vid of tash using what looked like a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster.

That's in line with that I was going to suggest, some kind of 25.5" scale Fender model (maybe with a tremolo). Single coils for clarity, and a trem system will usually get you a little less sustain so chords and single notes seem to "punch" a little more, like an acoustic guitar. Plus the long scale length keeps things bright and clear.

edit: you already have a strat? If you can find low-output pickups that sound really good to you it might turn that strat into what you need.

Since you're into indie/alternative, what about Jaguar?

Speaking of indie, chick from Cranberries passed on today. Lady could rock and purr like a kitten as well. Think LINGER has a beautiful melody RIP

It's always sad to hear of the passing of an artist. Yes, God bless Dolores O'Riordan. Seems like there have been quite a few artists/performers passing on lately. I was really getting into Tom Petty...he'll be greatly missed.
