Need an Inexpensive Floyd axe.

Im looking at Jackson DK2, LTD FM100, Kramer, OLP MM1 w/Floyd and a couple of others. I want a decent player that I can use for a pickup test bed and also a commuter axe that I dont have alot of dough in. Needs to play good and sound good.
Also looking at and S series Ibanez with the zr trem
Does that DK2 have a compound radius neck? MF cat says it does, but I doubt.Is a real floyd a direct replacement for the LIC floyd?

I've had the DK2 and the S470

DK does indeed have the compound radius board

ZR trem is much nicer than the Jackson trem, IME..In fact the ZR is the best Floyd I've played...though I've never had an original as I' not much of a whammy user......The ZR is super smooth..stayed in tune....

The Jackson sounds better out of the box w/ the Duncan designeds...The Ibanez had better switches, controls, etc.

Overall I think its a wash...

I actually miss the Jackson...love those necks....

Peavey makes a nice Floyd Gtr for about $200. Very Nice.

I have an Ibanez S470 great guiyar but the pickups are junk.

I don't know if you could beat that for a brand new guitar with an OFR.

Your other option is to find a used guitar and swap the floyd out (some of the LFR's are direct swaps, but Zerberus and some of the others will be able to tell you which ones). I know of three (if they aren't sold yet) Charvels with licensed floyds and they're each under $200. They won't play (or sound) quite as good as a US Charvel or Jackson, but if you just want a beater guitar, it might be something to consider. Play 'em before you buy them, though.

Godin Freeway Floyd....... Strat style with a Floyd copy..... Good price and pretty good wood.

the ZR vibrato in the current S-series Ibanez models is simply stellar because it has a built in trem-setter to ensure your dive bombs & insane whammy abuse goes back to its default setting- a one-up IMO. even a new S-series won't cost you a bomb.

alternatively, if you can find a used 2005 Ibanez RG370/ 350 (depicted here), it'd be good as well. the EdgeIII vibrato unit in there is a reliable player, if not superb.

I have 2 early 90's Jackson Dinky's from the Professional line...... good guitars. You have to replace the floyd posts for more stable tuning... They only cost $12 and are so worth the trouble!

Keep an eye on Ebay for a used Carvin Dc127.
You can usually pick up a basic one with a floyd for around the $350 to $450 range.
Carvin always used decent Floyds on their 6 strings.
Original Floyds (still use today)
Schaller Floyd II
Kahler Steeler.

All much better than the average licensed Floyds out there.

Only other Floyds I prefer are the Ibanez Edge models.

i'm considering selling my ibanez rg320dx sp1 spawn limited edition RG...the guitar is pretty much flawless with no fretwear to be seen or damage to the paint...the only mark is a tiny scratch on the black trem cover plate on the back. it does have the so-so TRS trem but it does stay in tune if you don't abuse the bar...however an origional floyd rose is a direct drop in. and the guitar comes with EMG pickups in it...2 81s since i may need the 85 that's in there now...send me a PM if you have any intrest in it...

Just bought a Peavey Predator for $229 new at the local store on saturday. Plays great, but the pickups are going right when i have the cash. Good trem, solid.

I have looked at those Predators alot. Never played one tho. I hear good things from everyone Ive talked to that has one. I think its one of those that flies under the radar. Good axe, good deal, no press.

Go for it. I'm liking it alot. It's amazing how it stays in tune. Tons of divebombs and its still in good tuning. I've only tuned it at the headstock once since i got it and I play it a few hours a day. It'll handle the Vai stuff. FUN.
