Need best Blues Pedal

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Jeez, Jerry, just hit one of those ODs with the gain low, and wail. You've got more than enough there to play the blues with.

Great reply...post 2 monster blues player in a live settign on one side and a pedal demo on the other...

Not scoring any points pal...

Listen, you can take the "Blues players don't use pedals" stance all day but that crap holds NO water here or anywhere else...

First blues is a style and a feeling not a sound, you can play the blues on anything you have...as for using effects pedals in a blues setting or as a blues player...

-SRV
-Johnny Winter
-Buddy Guy
-Eric Clapton
-Albert King
-Gary Moore
-Warren Haynes
-Duane Allman
-Chris Duarte
-Jeff Beck
-Jimmy Page
-Jimmie Vaughan
-Billy F Gibbons
-Joe Bonamassa
-Audley Freed
-Marc Ford
-Rich Robinson
-Luther Dikenson
-Johnny Lang
-Philip Sayce
-Dave Grissom
-Doyal Bramhall II

All these guys have played blues or do play blues and they all use pedals...many of them in fact use lots of pedals and are known for their killer tones...

I was just kidding around......pal.

"Welcome to the Seymour Duncan User Group Forums.
Talk with your fellow tone freaks on the web's liveliest (and friendliest!) tone forum." Just wanted to make sure I'd read that right. It really did say friendliest. ;)

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

it did mention lively too :D

pedals have their place for sure but if i can get away without using one, i usually like the results better.

oh and jimmie vaughan should not be allowed to take solos on blues songs

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Well, a blues pedal , I think, is low gain, so I dont really have anything in that pic but I do have my old Bluesbreaker, so i pulled that out and stuck it on the board instead of the Guv'nor, which is fairly similar enuf to the DriveMaster where i won't really miss it.

Hey..does anyone Like the BD-2??

I have a Dirty Little Secret and a BD-2.
I prefer the BD-2 - I find that I can get a subtle, more realistic breakup effect.
Plus, dialing in the tone seems easier when trying to match it with my normal tone.
Don't get me wrong though, the DLS is not going anywhere. It's rock and rawk switch is a must have with single coils.

I am not sure what sound your looking for, but I am just after a natural break up that comes with having the amp on 10. If I could crank my amp, I would probably not use any dist. pedal.

Test drive the BD-2 in a store.

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

stock bd2 or modded?

the dls is a cool pedal, dont like rawk mode though.

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

I've heard some mighty fine blues played on acoustic guitars (no pedals...not even an amp).

I'm convinced that the best sounds you'll ever hear are played by guys that know how to play, irregardless of what they're playing through.

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

What I read from your post is that you do not have any idea what BLUES is all about!

You seem to think that it’s in a pedal, but it is not.

If you think it in a scale, it is not.

It is a feeling that comes from your heart and soul and could be played fast or slow, but when it is played correctly, with or without pedals, you and the audience will know it!

Frankly, I cannot see how someone who goes but the name ‘Metal”maniac would believe that he knows what blues really is!

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

I think like everyone has said that you have enough drive pedals but if you are set on getting one something with a tweed or blackface character (vs a marshall character or a ts type od) might be nice or something very transparent.

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Catalinbread Formula 5 for Tweed, Ge Fuzz Face for classic rock / blues, or a Monte Allums BD-2 (sounds better than Keeley & Analogman).

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

I liked that Family Style CD Jimmie did with SRV. Listening to it, sometimes it's hard to tell Stevie from Jimmie!
