need help attatching strap/strap to new agile 3500 guitar with my upgraded duncans

hi all i posted on the pickups thread the other day bout the lefty agile 3500 (picked up at rondo today) with upgraded duncan jb/jazz combo. it is great an i will give an update to my prior thread once i get this annoying issue worked out. i bought strap locks as this is a heavy guitar (they say "shraller on the back). problem is i now have no idea how to attatch the strap and the strap locks to the guitar. first i presumed that the strap would go over the strap holder (or whatever the part is called hat is actually attatched to the guitar) and then the shraller would snap on over that. after fiddling with it it has become apparant this is not the case. next i have tried attatching the strap to the clip on piece then putting the washer and screw over that. is is painfully obvious that both of my straps are too thick for this to be the way it attatches as i cant even get the washer/screw to attatch with the strap on. what am i missing? help!

The "U" shaped piece with the threaded post is where you need to start. The "U" shaped part goes on the underside of your strap. Stick the threaded post up thru the guitar strap, place the flat washer over it and screw on the small hex nut. Tighten with pliers to make sure it doesn't come loose. There is a small piece in the top of the post that pulls up slightly. Pull that up, and slide the "U" shaped piece over the button you installed on the guitar. It snaps in place and you are done.

here ya go...it goes just like this...

you may need to trim the corners very slightly of the strap ends where the slit for the center hole is to get the clip/threaded part of the schaller to slide through.

thank you jeff, that was actually what i was attemting to do but am i nuts or is there just not enought room? my strap which is standard is almost as thick as the screw thread that i need to put both a washer and screw on. is this really how it works or did i get a strap lock for say a banjo or something?

wow xssive this site is amazing, pictures too ok i guess i am doing it correctly man that system does not seem that safe as if i can do it the screw will barely be on...here we go.

Yeah, mike is right about trimming the strap corners. There is a hole in your strap, with a straight slit at the bottom of it. Take some sicssors and trim away the tips, leaving you a slightly bigger opening. Then you should be golden. I had trouble the first time too.

You'll love them once you get them done. Don't forget to tighten those hex nuts TIGHT. I've had them work loose when I didn't tighten enough.

ok last question....do i really have the right locks? i just measured the threaded part of the threaded post...it is 1/4 of 1 inch...im supposed to put a leather guitar strap that is itself almost 1/4 of an inch thick over this threaded post and have room to put a washer and screw? i cant beleive this is it...sorry if im being repetative but i feel i must be missiing something.

as far as i know schaller only makes one style of their locks just in different colors...so you must have the right ones...you just need to force it on there a bit and get a wrench or some pliers and tighten the heck out of the nut onto the threaded area (with the washer below it) it should go on, it may be a pain but just fight back and the leather should compress enough to get it on there with a wrench or pliers. as Jeff said, get those nuts on there as tight as you can b/c if you don't they can come loose after time.

yes, you have to really compress and squeeze the strap material over that threaded post before screwing down the threaded nut ... i use pliers and a wrench to get it good and tight ... once it's on, it really stays on well


be sure you get the strap button (that attaches to the guitar) on good and tight too .. i have never had trouble with the strap part, but the guitar part always gives me fits

thanks all but i dont think it gonnna happen, i cut both my straps, and arter can hardly get the screw on even without the washer. this is unbeleivably poorly designed imop. my fingers are sore from trying to get that damm screw to attach over the washer. nuts.

take it to the shop where you bought it and see if they have a trick?

i agree that schaller should make that threaded post an other 1/4" or even 1/2" longer

final note i finally got it by holding both side with a wrenches ... as i gave it my final tug 1 entire side of the U shaped devise broke and fell to the floor...just like shaller will if i ever meet him. thanks all.
