Need help choosing an amp...

Andrew Lamprecht

Minion of One
In high school to make some extra money I gave guitar lessons to a few students. I have been looking around for another job but in the meantime decided to try and do this again. Maybe I could get a bigger base, with more kids to make more money than I did and maybe even not have to find a second job. I already have a Peavey Rage 258 that will do for one person in the room but I need another small amp...

The 4 amps that are cheap in my area are....

Fender Frontman 25R
Vox Pathfinder 15R
Peavey Vypyr 15
Fender mustang I (more expensive)

I would go with the vypyr out of those 3. But if you can find a Fender Mustang that would be a really good one to use too.

Re: Need help choosing an amp...

Of those four choices, the Pathfinder. Even cork snorters on TGP like those.

Re: Need help choosing an amp...

Any pawnshop prizes in your area?

If you're buying new, I'd probably go for the Vyper.

What is your budget? If $200 to $300 and used is OK, look at the Ampeg Jet II's from the '90's. 15W class A 1x12. Portable, warm, nasty, loud, great reverb, great tremolo.

Re: Need help choosing an amp...

Go to Guitar Center's website and click on their used gear section. Go to amps and type in what brand you like. For instance, you can usually find a used Fender Frontman 65 R for around the 100 dollar range and a extra 15 or so for shipping. Definately a good deal.
I've seen some Crate 2 x 12 120 watt combos go for around $120.00 or so.

For lessons a Roland Microcube would do the job nicely for little money.

Re: Need help choosing an amp...

i have a pair of frontman 15R's in my studio at work, but now i use a microcube instead of one of the fenders. Works great.

Agreed. The school I work at uses Cubes and they sound surprisingly great. I was really surprised the first time I plugged into one.

Re: Need help choosing an amp...

peavey classic 20
silvertone 1482
fender blues jr
blackstar HT-5

all great small amps. the vypyr 15 is the most versatile for the money though.

and my friend is selling a peavey bandit 112 for $200.
