yeah, try and get hold of a Marshall DSL50 combo. That'll give you hendrix through to metal, and there are good prices to be had.

My opinion is just try everything, go to a few "super" stores (even if you don't plan to buy from them) and play everything (tube or SS) then go to a few "vintage/use" shops and do the same. Odds are you'll find something.

Whoa, man. Let's not go off the deep end! You mean, like, you should try stuff yourself and pick what works for you? Why would anyone want to do that when they can ask self-appointed experts on the intarweb?

Seriously, your response oughta be the answer to every such query. While we're at it, I suspect a lot of people would be happier with their rigs if they avoided choosing gear based on specs or labels and just tried everything they could get their hands on and bought what sounded good to them.

I mean sweet as in a nice smooth sound as opposed to "sweet" meaning awesome. Like the opposite of edgy. I am not a retard and i can basically sum it up like this: I want an amp that will create an overdrive that sounds nice. Despite all the varieties in tone out there, I think we can generally agree on what amps are acceptable and which ones are just not good. I don't want a peavey rage. And I could care less about the 'mythology of power tubes", I have a transistor thing goin on my amp, I don't like it, I like the sound of the power tube amps i have played at guitar stores, that is all. I don't need to be schooled, I just want suggestions for an amp that at least 40 percent of people would like, and is within my price range.

go with a marshall, a single channle one if you can, you can probanly find one in the $700 range at the used shops and still talk the price down even lower. I know for a fact that least in San Antonio you can find a good marshall head for $ 700, heres a link to the shop I usally buy from and these guys have a few marshall tube heads in your price range. I think they ship.

Hope this help, but a Marshall would be the way to go if your doing Hendrix type stuff.

Can you stop crapping on me like I'm some kind of snot nosed punk? I'm asking around, to make an informed decision. Did you ever consider that maybe I don't happen to have access to every brand of amp out there? You haven't helped out once in this entire thread, but yet you have posted a number of times in it, seemingly to put me down or something. I'd like to get some suggestions for where to start looking, so make some or get out.

Well, I was hoping for varied suggestions. But I was thinking today and I would like something with a nice clean channel, and a sweet power OD that I can use in contrast with an Orange I intend to buy one day.

I think you answered your own question to be honest with you. Why buy something to contrast with an Orange. Obviously there's something you like about the Orange, I know I enjoyed the Rockerverb 50 when I played it.
Yeah they're pricey, but spending $700 on your second, or third choice isn't what I would recommend. Take it from someone who's suffered with mediocre gear for YEARS, before my wife of all people finally said, stop fooling around save the $$$$$ and buy the amp you REALLY WANT!!!
So my suggestion is... save more $$$$$ buy that Orange!!!!

I get where you're coming from in this thread, man,

If you dig the Orange, you're probably into more British-sounding OD tones. I can relate to that, too. But it rules my F-50 recommendation out. I don't think you can get those kind of sounds out of one (though this would be the part where somebody chimes in and tells me they can make their F-50 sound exactly like a Marshall).

Is there some reason the amp absolutely must be a combo? A good head and a smaller (1x12 or 2x12) cabinet can still be realistic for your needs and possibly within your price range as well.

Check out Ebay for a used Sovtek Mig-50 or a Red Bear 50-watter. Both are basically Marshall clones of good quality and can be had seriously on the cheap due to their lack of brand recognition.

That said, I think you're going to have some trouble finding the kind of 50-watt tube combo you're looking for under $700.

You're in Canada, right? If you like Marshally EL34 tone the Canadian Traynor YCV50 is definitely a worthy contender. 2 channels, 50 watts with a master volume that works exceptionally well. I had one for 14 months-a record for me!

I know that most of the amps being suggested here, and most of the amps in general that I will get suggested, have an onboard reverb, if there is an amp without any frills in the way off effects that would be great. I just bought a Holy Grail reverb pedal and I love it. I've been looking myself but I gotta admit that alot of guys on this forum have far more experience amp wise than I do. Thanks for your help.

Just throwing this out there....but you could always trya vintage tube series Crate amp. Not those God awful tube amps that they have currently out, but the vintage series that came out in the 90's. You could easliy find a use one on evil-bay for under $300, good clean channel/good od channel these amps were designed with the mind set of a affordable Marshall. Check it out.

I had one just like this and it sounded great. The only fault that seems to be assosciated with these amps is the input jact being faulty but that was a very cheap fix, and I never had any problems with it after. Seriously try one.
