Need Simple Amp Advice

hi, i'll keep this simple. i need a new amp.

good value amp, nothing too expensive
i play mostly metal, megadeth, metallica etc so it must be able to pull this off
i need the flexibility of being able to play at home in my room and with my band in practice conditions (i am lead guitarist)
between 40 watt and 100 watt preferably
good clean channel would be handy aswell

so any suggestions for me? i'll probably won't be able to afford a tube amp and i don't mind using a modelling amp.

by the way i play through a Custom SH-5 if this helps. i currently have a 15 watt mg marshall which is just not good enough for playing with a band.

thanx

A Peavey XXL combo, or a Line 6 flextone. The Peavey has great distortions and a wonderful clean tones but, the Line 6 distortions have a very slight edge over the Peavey but, I think the cleans are lacking.

thanx, the peavey is a bit out of my price range but line 6 is interesting though, you sure its good for metal? doesn't look much like a metal machine, but what do looks mean.

anymore suggestions anyone?

i'd say you should pick up a flextone- i really like mine. and if you're looking to play cover songs, you can get a cable that connects your amp to your comp, and you can download premade tones that people have created for certain songs. i've found that many of the tones i've downloaded for certain songs are almost dead on.

The Peavey is just slightly more expensive than the flextone but, they are in the same ball park. You could probally get the Peavey used for the same price as a used flextone. On the XXL I used to have, I had to run the gain at about a half or a quarter of the way up on one of the channels because it was a very heavy amp. If you cant get enough distortion out of one of those amps you need to get your head checked. BTW, the flextone will work great for metal but the Peaveys clean is alot better and the Peavey can go a tad bit heavier in my book. The XXL is solid state but, I was very impressed with the sounds that came out of it. Best sounding solid state amp I have ever played by a long shot.

The best sounding amp for metal, that can be used as a live rig and home practice rig, in my opinion, is a Vox Valvetronix AD60 or AD120 (stereo) head. They're relatively cheap, but have an endless number of ways to dial in 'the perfect highgain tone', and the cleans on the Vox models, Bassman 4-10, and Blackface sound pretty damn good with the right speaker cab. The best part is the variable wattage selector, recording, and headphone outs.....about the same as a Tonelab or POD XT. The inexpensive Vox heads $400/$500 sound every bit as good as a pricey Vetta, only the look of it is pretty retro, and the FX aren't quite as advanced. However, the FX are laid out like stomboxes with knobs, so there's not a bunch of digital parameters to give you a headache. If you use a good quality cab with Celestions, it sounds better to me than Vox's speaker cab. Also, the Vox has an adjustable noisegate, so the super saturated stuff doesn't hiss when you stop playing.

I suggest you also look into Randall amps. Pretty good stuff.
+1.. I had a randall 4*12 combo, bought it for 300$ and the tone was amazing, although i had to use distortion pedals cause there was lack of gain
