Need some Fender cleanyness

Re: Need some Fender cleanyness

Oh yeah I know the difference between faces just wasn't aware of the abbreviations. And yeah I'd appreciate if someone could briefly summarize what kind of effect different capacitors would have.

The main difference you would notice by changing the power supply caps to the 16uF-475 volt from the 22uF-500 volt that are currently in there is in the expressiveness of the amp; it has more "bounce" to it. The bass frequencies loose the harshness that the RIs seem to have. I have heard the term "rounder" bass used to describe it. I left out another important piece of the mod in my previous post: the bias cap needs to be changed to a 25 uf - 50 volt.

Re: Need some Fender cleanyness

Let's you and I go music store hopping this weekend. Remember too, that I picked up my Lux for $699 and if you remember I brought it straight from the store to that night we played...well...somewhere...I forget and you and Kyle had wood for the tone.

If you found the right one you'd be set and could play it as it is for a while.

By all means, go vintage and stay away from the new stuff.

And as you already know, you are welcome to borrow the lux anytime to really give it a good spin to see how well you bond.

Re: Need some Fender cleanyness

From what I've read about the Mesa/Boogie Lonestar, it gets great Fender-like cleans, and you could probably pick one up for about $1000.

Re: Need some Fender cleanyness

... and when you look at it that way $1K isn't all that much in the amp world!

i agree that 1K doesn't go as far as it used to......but, it's a LOT to me.......so, i only buy used gear...and ONLY wwhen it's a bargain.......i may not have the hippest gear......but, the best music ever recorded was with gear that had LIMITATIONS.:cool2:.............plus......i can still feed my family:14:

the deals are out there........i just(today) put on layaway a pignose g40v that was priced @ $99 and then marked down to $89.

having the latest thing is not all it's cracked up to be.........sometimes, using your grey matter to get a great tone out of the most unlikely amp has it's rewards.:naughty:

laissez les bon temps roulier!

Just buy a SF Fender amp...there are all kinds of dels out ther right now and the market is getting softer...

This man knows. :cool2:

Christian and Lew recommend me a SF Princeton Reverb, the amp smokes. IF you want the cleans, go for a Super or a Pro, depending on the speaker config you want. You can Blackface them for pretty cheap from a good tech, and that's the[/i] sound you've been hearing and want in your head...
