New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

If it came in a few other finishes (and a less hefty price tag) I'd be all over it.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

For me the 24.75 scale is one of the distinguishing characteristics of Gibson guitars and one of the reasons I tend to play Gibson more than Fender. Stumpy fingers.

It's good they're offering it though.

At that price I'll probably stick with my MIM/MIJ Fenders when I want to play 25.5.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

I saw the price tag and legitimately said out loud, "Holy sh!t!".

I think they would get more sales if they started making 25.5" scale length an option for Studio Les Pauls first. That way people could actually afford them, and it is essentially the same thing minus the expensive detail work.

gibson marketing guru: "guys, i think we should diversify our product lineup a bit. maybe we should make a les paul with a fender scale so that we might be able to appeal to a larger audience.

gibson production guru: "yeah, we can totally do that, it'll require a bit of extra work getting things ready for the production, but I don't see why not."

henry juszkiewicz: "Awesome! I'm really excited about this! I think it could be a really good move for us! What should we set the price at?

production guy: Well it'll take a little bit of time to reprogram the CNC machines with the revised body and neck plans, but in terms of materials costs, it shouldn't really be any different than a normal LP Standard or custom... if those are the specs we're shooting for... say around $2500 or so?

marketing guy: That seems fair... I mean we are trying to bring in a different audience who might have traditionally stayed away from the Gibson brand because of discomfort or whatever...

Henry: Excellent. let's double that number just to make sure that we really make this attractive, from the standpoint of switching brand loyalties. I mean if we're going to steal Fender customers, we want to make sure they pay for their indiscretion, right?

marketing guy: ........

production guy: .......

Henry: Alright then.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

those are $2,832 inlays, I guess . . . but seriously, where'd they come up with the '$832' part ? Were they throwing darts at a board ? Did they bring 3 employees into a room and ask them to think of a number between 1 and 10 ? Is it somebody's street address ? Does $4,999 seem like way too much, but $4,832 is 'JUST RIGHT' ? I bet Phil at Precision guitar kits would charge something staggering like $250 or so extra to change the programming on the CNC and give you any scale you wanted, with way better wood . . .

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

This is like the drive-thru liquor store concept of guitar marketing: it's almost a good idea. Color me apathetic on the idea in general, but f*ck that price.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

You can have a custom Agile built with those specs for about 1/8 the cost.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

Isn't that a good cop/bad cop MSRP, so they can do things like this on Sweetwater / Musicians Friend?

$4,8327 ??? LOL NO

$2,499

It's funny that as Agile guitars and even Epis get better and better, Gibson's balls get bigger and bigger.

So, where is your million? Seeing as you know everything?

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

The price is probably rrp; I'd think street would be less, but it's Gibson, so *shrug*.

Yeah, would be the way to do it.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

I think this is a good move personally. I've always loved the tone of Gibsons but never cared for their necks. I'm not saying this will make me go and buy one, but I think its cool to see them offer the longer scale...just my two cents...

There is no way that the actual conversation was this logical.

Re: New 25.5 scale Gibson LP

Guess they figure if they advertise it with having piano like lows, they can price it like a Stienway
