New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

After much reading and several questions I decided to trade my old Ibanez Artist for a near new Fender Supersonic 60. So far I'm pretty happy with the trade. I was planning on selling the Artist but never got any serious offers until I was offered the trade for the Fender.

It seems there's quite a few lemons out there. Lots of complaints about them but I can say I honestly have none. No hum, noise, hiss or any other issues. To my ears the Bassman & Vibralux channels sound as advertised and I was quite surprised that the so called "burn" channel (still getting used to calling a lead channel burn) sounds quite good. Goes from nasty texas blues to near Boogie Mark territory.

I was really needing to sell the Artist for $$ but I think I can get a bit more out of the Fender according to the prices I'm seeing on ebay but after over an hour of playing I'm not so sure it'll be leaving anytime soon. :naughty:

Here's a pic. Not pictured is the footswitch which also turns the fx loop on and off. Wish my Boogie did that.

Thanks guys! I'm still surprised just how much I like it. Granted, I'm still experiencing the whole honeymoon period thing. I was really nervous about trading after reading so many complaints online. Maybe it's a deal like the 1st run of Marshall DSL's and several just came out of the factory bad.

Funny you mentioned this being a good pedal platform SFTD. I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd love to hear a good fuzz through it.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

Congrats! That's a hell of an amp. I remember playing one just like it years ago, before any of the other SS models came out, and I thought it was fantastic. I like the whole line quite a bit.

You should run that into your Mesa cab for kicks.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

nice, I like the head version. would like the combo someday myself!

what "other SS models" are you talking about agileguy_101?

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

I love my SS60 (same model/color you have), despite its issues. Happy NAD!

@DankStar: The Super Sonic was offered in both head and combo forms, and in 60W and 22W megatonnage.

Nice score.
That's a good amp and hope it does good with you.

Tried one out and thought this amp would be winner only the Bassman & Vibralux channels and no higher gain side.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

Have you had any problems with your SS60 Dr.V?

I am loving both the bassman & vibrolux sounds a lot. My other amp is a Mesa DC-5 and the clean channel is "eh..so so". Useable but nothing like this amp.

Also, I have no reference to the original bassman & vibrolux sounds. The supersonic sounds great but I'm curious how faithful it is to the original amps.

Don't forget the 100W Super Sonic Twin.
I have one of these......of my few amps I've chosen to keep this one next to me at work in my office. If you like classic rock or 70's R&B this fits perfectly. Very smooth everything. I wanted the gold celestian speakers but that model was not available (FSR) so I went ahead with this one and it's really nice. Not sure how the same model sounds with the gold though......that one is probably just as nice.

Yes. I had mentioned the crackling problem in another of your threads about this amp. Probably just a bad tube, but I haven't diagnosed it yet.

But I do love the sound of the vintage side of this amp. I also like having the built-in kick-stands. I do not like moving it anywhere.

Are the gold Celestion speakers Vintage 30's with gold lettering? That's what the speaker in my 60 looks like. I have been in a 70's revival music wise lately so I think this amp will be just the ticket. Plus, like SFTD said it seems to be an excellent pedal platform. Been itchin' to build another booster & fuzz. Now I have a good amp to play both with.

My memory is shot DrV. Forgot my other thread. So far no crackling. It's loud as hell but quiet as mouse noise wise. Did yours come with Groove Tubes? I dread buying tubes for this thing!

Granted, you could push some air at a show but without casters I see this staying at home. My back can't take carrying that thing around. I did move it just outside the front door to get a good pic and may have hurt myself then.

You got the gold! Good stuff... My local fender dealer (the guys in the store) described the difference as the gold producing a brighter sound with more clarity. Still haven't heard one myself......although my Super-Sonic 100 is very nice. Let us know how the speakers do when you really crank...

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

Odd. Guy I got it from was as ignorant about the gold celestion as me. Do they charge more for them?

I actually got a chance to crank it a little today. This thing is so loud I need to break out the long cable and go in the other room! No joke. Plan to try it a little louder tomorrow. Don't think I got much past 2 really on either channel. To my ears "bright with more clarity" sounds spot on. I'll have a proper listen when I can really crank it up tomorrow.

Tried all sorts of different eq & different gain settings (both controls) but I could not get down with the burn channel. Did nothing for me whatsoever. No blues, rock or metal tones I dug that much. Anybody else find it as disappointing? Honestly it had gain to spare so it even did metal, just not in a good way.

They should have left it out and used the real estate for 2 full eq controls for the bassman & vibrolux modes. I'm also assuming that burn channel is why there's 8 freakin' preamp tubes. I know reverb & loop are probably the 2 AT7's but the other 6 AX7's seem overkill.

Plan on trying your suggestion of hooking it up to my boogie cab also tomorrow agileguy. Really anxious to hear that after reading your new cab post.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

I have the 60 watt head. I got it in about 2008 I think. The Bassman voicing on the clean channel is awesome when cranked so that it breaks up.
The burn channel is quite flexible, with each of the two gain controls imparting a different sounding voice.
The footswitch on mine has issues. One of the buttons never really worked. But I keep it in my home studio and usually select channels with the front panel knobs.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

Yes......Gold costs more!
My burn channel works great............my two gain controls allow for some good combinations.

Re: New Amp Day!! Fender Supersonic 60 1x12

One thing I really remember about this amp even to this day is how great the Bassman channel sounds with the volume around 6. I want the head version just for that. Maybe some day.

Mine came with Groove Tubes and the gold-labeled Vintage 30 also. Same trim package as yours, too. Same backbreaker as yours, too.

Whether you love or hate the Burn channel, we can all agree on the vintage side.
