New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

I will agree that it is a very good amp. Just do yourself a favor, and the crowd that you are playing for. Buy a noise suppressor. You can thank me later.

Nice score BTW. I've had 2 of them, and still have mad love for 'em. Enjoy!

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

oh LOL I do not play anywhere at all ahaha just wanted a nice amp that will last me

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

but yeah I am thinking of a couple of pedals on the list that will help XD

Dude, An MXR Phase 90, an ISP G-string, and a decent OD, will put you any where you want to go, with that amp.

Like I said before. Enjoy that amp. It is a good one.

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

An Overdrive will tighten it up. Personal preference, really.

You *could* use the Metal Muff, just set it on VERY low settings... but a Tube Screamer variant of some sort would work better. Plenty of clones in the $30-$40 range.

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

I'll look into the suggestions lol I am poor now due to this killer amp XD

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

Congrats! That model is arguably the best sounding of the series some say.

I used to run an OD pedal and noise gate. Now I just plug straight in with the gain at 5.5. Sometimes I'll use my Decimator, but otherwise I've learned to harness the amp's wild nature.

Ibanez TS-7
Biyang OD-8 (has 3 different chips that you can try)
Joyo JF-01
Digitech Bad Monkey

Re: New Amp Day! Peavey 5150!!!!

Looks hella cool, but...no dedicated knobs at all, gotta start over every time you switch channels? :-/ unfortunate, that.... does that make em cheaper to get now that theres like 6 diff generations/models from at least 3 brands?

Any quantifiable advantage (like speakers or somewhat different schematic vs. "don't make em like they used to" or original version appeal) over 6505s or 5153s?

PS for cheapo TSey overdrive, add Aria ADT1 to the list... Japan made, labelled "distortion" but actually just a 4558 chip screamer in a cheap chassis, with a gain knob that goes somewhat higher. Got mine for $25

TS7 with the 808 mods or an OD808, an NS2 or ISP Decimator and you're golden. Eventually swap the speakers out for some Greenbacks, Lynchbacks, or V30s and you've got an insanely cool (albeit heavier than hell) setup.

Greenbacks - impossible (wattage instablow)
Lynchbacls - near-instablow if 120w version, doable if 60w
V30s - popular swap for 6505s, but arent the speakers in old 5150s supposedly pretty much rocksolid respectable copies of the v30 already? (unsure, rumor i heard)

I love the epiphone I have, just looking for a guard so the strap doesn't cut into my neck and the amp is heavy as hell but I don't move my stuff... ever...
