New Amp Day

Carvin V3.

I've only had her a few days.
She came loaded with 6l6's .
The former owner also sent the EL34's along as well as the FS44 footswitch.
Got her for $535 plus shipping.
I thought it was a decent deal.

So far I really like it.
Got a real nice clean tone and a nice metal tone out of her so far.
To you guys it would probably be more of a classic metal sounding tone.
But, I'm an old fart and tend to gravitate to that sound.
Think John Sykes, Doug Aldrich.

But you can get into brutals territory with the thick mode on and deep knob up.
And if you need more there's the expanded EQ switch also.

There's a lot on this amp. It'll take me a bit to really learn all the things it can do. I've only touched the surface.
So far so good.

I'm using it with my Sonic 4x12 cab which is loaded with Carvin(eminence) GT12-16's. Carvin's version of the V30.

I also have a cab loaded with the old Celestion G12m-70's. But, haven't tried it yet with this head.

Re: New Amp Day

I wanna get one of those myself but, I'd have to test it out first. I'm a metal player but, I don't go for the typical scooped mids metal sound. As a buddy from another board once said - "Mids are where the angry lives!" \m/ Nice snag, man.

Re: New Amp Day

I think I've said it before, but that Carvin guitar of yours is probably the coolest one I've seen.

Congrats on the amp.

Re: New Amp Day

Played one of those for a while a few months ago. Really cool rigs prefered them to any boogie Rec I have ever played.
Big round cleans, nice in between crunch tones and downright BRUTAL metal tones. Those IMO are one of the best multi chanell high gain heads out there at any price!
Congrats.

Re: New Amp Day

Cool man --- that is an oddball and intriguing amp!

I hate to ask, but we all know it's coming: "Is that a Mesa Rectifier series wannabe?"

The 6L6 + EL34 thing, plus the image, kinda primed me to the idea.

I like Carvin amps, and for some odd reason just never ended up with one during my times of amp-searchage.

I vow to myself that I WILL get an X100B. The latest generation of those amps seem perfect!

Congratulations on a very rad head, and an even better price!

Congrats!

....looks like you'll have some major versatility once you get her figured out...ENJOY!

Re: New Amp Day

Thanks, guys.

I'm really enjoying it so far.

Here are some demo's by Angelo Janotti.

Someday I'll get to makeing a video myself.

Oh, and a pic for Gearjoneser.

I think people tend to expect it to be.
But, I don't think it really is.
I think it's got it's own vibe going.
So, I would say if you ever try one, try it on it's own merits.
Not, how well it can copy another amp.

For some reason people tend to think Carvin is a clone company like Behringer.
They really aren't.
They may have "inspired by" designs.
But, they're not blantent rip-offs like Behringer gear.

Even though my ST300 is Jackson Soloist influenced, it's neck feels way different than a Soloist neck.

Re: New Amp Day
