You can always use a volume pedal, maybe in the loop?, in stead of using your volume knob. Then you can go from clean to dirty, and stomp on a box if you have to.

I haven't worked on a "dedicated" volume pedal before... just the volume pedal function of a multi-fx unit.

I guess I'll just have to experiment more on what I currently have.

Theodie, Brisk and I all did a Peavey XXX cab versus Marshall 1960 cab shootout. The Marshall cab sounded more open and less compressed. Seemed to be more lively too. The XXX cab wasn't bad, but seemed to be a little lifeless and flat by comparison.

I've never tried the XXX cab but the speakers in the 2x12 combo were pretty damn good. If it is in any way close to the Windsor cab it was so tight when I got it I thought it would pop it was so compressed. It opened right up after a few hours of playing and so far has only gotten better.

Friday night I was running my Melody Maker into it and it sounded great, plenty of punch and snap on hand. Now I am not running the levels of gain the XXX is capable of but certainly running in the middle range of it's crunch channel.

I didn't break it in though. Ran both the JCM-900 of Theodie's and my XXX through both cabs just to be fair. The cab had about 5 hours play time on it from me before I sold it. Who knows what it received in the showroom as it was a floor model.

Went to GC today and played a Windsor. This is THE amp I have been longing for! Amazing sounds are produced from it and there is a surprising amount of versatility for a single channel amp. I am impressed and am going to buy one within a week.
